The Dryden will screen Smultronstället (Wild Strawberries, Ingmar Bergman, Sweden 1957, 91 min., 35mm, Swedish w/subtitles) as part of the Bergman Centennial series.

Bergman's second masterpiece of 1957 features Victor Sjöström in his final screen performance as a widowed physician who is forced to re-evaluate his life on a car ride to receive the title of doctor jubilaris. Accompanied by his pregnant daughter-in-law, he encounters two sets of hitchhikers who remind him of his past life. He dreams of past contentment—and nightmares of who he has become—leading to realizations that go beyond the title he is driving toward.
