Marnie screening (2017-Nov-5 @ 2 p.m.)
2017-Nov-05 @ 14:00 - 16:10
The Dryden will screen Marnie (Alfred Hitchcock, U.S. 1964, 130 min., 35mm) as part of the Hitchcock in Winter series.
Tippi Hedren is Marnie, a troubled kleptomaniac haunted by her past, who becomes the object of wealthy Sean Connery's affection. This gripping sexual drama pits obsession against repression and rotating roles of predator and prey. Negatively received by critics upon its release, Marnie now stands as one of Hitchcock's richest and most fully rounded works, reprising Vertigo's theme of obsessive love with the detachment and veiled sadism of The Birds. It is also Hitchcock's last film with music by frequent collaborator Bernard Herrmann.
