Larry Gone Demon, Rabid screenings

2015-Oct-31 @ 20:00 - 21:45

The Dryden will screen Larry Gone Demon (Matthew John Lawrence, U.S. 2015, 14 min., DCP), and Rabid (David Cronenberg, Canada 1977, 91 min., 35mm) with an introduction by "Larry" director Matthew John Lawrence, and actor Ryan Conrath as Larry. "This frenetic, punk-rock nightmare centers on one asshole of a roommate. When three twentysomethings must deal with the incorrigible and incredibly demonic Larry, they risk life and limb in an attempt to save the soul of their once kind and unassuming friend while also procuring his $500 in back rent."

Following a near-death, traumatic motorcycle crash, a woman (Marilyn Chambers) is rushed to a nearby hospital specializing in plastic surgery: the Keloid Clinic. There, Dr. Keloid performs an emergency, but still experimental, skin-graft surgery on her that leaves her mysteriously bloodthirsty and wielding a phallic organ from her armpit that penetrates and desiccates her victims. Quickly, those bitten turn into braindead, foaming-at-the-mouth zombies, biting and transmitting the infection. When she finally escapes to Montreal, chaos reigns on the city. An early low-budget thriller from Cronenberg, this deadly serious yet lively take on the zombie/virus/mad-scientist genres remains undeniably unique and terrifyingly enjoyable, straight up until the crushing final shot.
