Discussion of Abolishing the Johnson Amendment with Dr. Marvin McMickle, Richard Gilbert, Hamid Malik, Dr. Marvin Mich
2016-Oct-17 @ 19:00 - 21:00
FreeThe 2016 Presidential campaign has generated renewed interest in a provision in the U.S. tax code known as the Johnson Amendment that prohibits tax-exempt organizations, including churches and other houses of worship, from endorsing or opposing political candidates. The Republican candidate for President has promised his evangelical supporters that he will abolish this provision, should he be elected. Is this a good or bad idea? These local religious leaders will discuss this question and other church/state separation issues on October 17:
- Dr. Marvin McMickle, President of the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School Rev.
- Richard Gilbert, Minister Emeritus of the First Unitarian Church of Rochester
- Hamid Malik, Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Rochester
- Dr. Marvin Mich, Director of Advocacy at the Catholic Family Center of Rochester
