Boom! screening (2016-Oct-17 @ 1:30 p.m.)

2016-Oct-17 @ 13:30 - 15:20

The Dryden will screen Boom! (Joseph Losey, U.K. 1968, 110 min., 16mm).

Tennessee Williams never did tread gently over the harder affairs of life. His unique approach to the hovering fog of impending death is obvious in the narrative of Boom!, from which Joseph Losey depicted a hot, stressed, and colorful depiction of mortality. The sun seems to burn throughout the whole film, and the addition of the two leads, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, certainly does nothing to diminish the smoldering heat of the picture. Behind the glistening jewels and the elaborate headdresses one can see the intensity of a very humanizing film. This touching adaptation of Williams's The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore proves that sometimes we have to accept what, or who, we are offered in our time of need.
