Rochester's Rich History: The Rochester Gay Liberation Front

2019-May-18 @ 13:00 - 15:00

Timothy D. Judd will present a lecture on Rochester's Rich History titled The Rochester Gay Liberation Front.

By the mid-1970s gays and lesbians had formed over a thousand affiliated organizations throughout the country. The Rochester Gay Liberation Front, located at the University of Rochester campus, was part of this national process of demanding gay and lesbian rights. Among their many achievements, the GLF created a newspaper we still know today as The Empty Closet. These local activists brought into existence, in just three short years, a separate, cohesive gay and lesbian community.
