- If I'm downtown, I'll probably stop at Granite Mills Park (at High Falls) today to see Kristen Shiner McGuire perform starting around 12:15 p.m. [source: RocWiki events, 2012-Jul-23]
- Curiosity may get the best of me and get me to go to the Reynolds Auction of the Karen Huntley-Romanow Estate (255 Berkeley St.) starting at 5 p.m. If nothing else, the Fiesta Ware collection is absurdly huge and I'd like to see how much some of those things sell for. - Marni Shindelman of Rochester and Nate Larson of Baltimore will present the Biennial Artist Lecture at the MAG this evening starting around 7 p.m. [source: MAG website, 2012-Jul-23]
- If not, I'll head to the Dryden to see The Omega Man (Boris Sagal, US 1971, 98 min.) starting late at 8:30 p.m. (due to the Garden Vibes performance, so maybe I can catch the lecture anyway). Here's the calendar summary:
The second of several films based on Richard Matheson's classic post-apocalypse vampire novel I Am Legend, this film casts Charlton Heston as one of the few humans to survive a biological war between China and the USSR. Most everyone else has been turned into predatory instant mutants.

- Over at Abilene starting more like 9:30 p.m. is Mary Cutrufello. Musically, Abilene describes her as "a Texas honky-tonk heroine, a fiery Midwestern roots-rocker, and a powerhouse acoustic performer" but it's the "Yale-educated" footnote that has me really intrigued. Friday, July 27
- I hate to miss National Lampoon's Vacation (Harold Ramis, US 1983, 98 min.) playing tonight at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Dryden but I've got other plans. [source: Dryden calendar, 2012-Jul-23]
Saturday, July 28
- This afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Little is the matinée screening of short films in the NY Filmmakers' Quarterly (same as this past Wednesday). [source: Little Theatre e-mail, 2012-Jul-18]
- Over at the MuCCC tonight at 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow at 2 p.m. is The Man at the Piano is Not Here by Ned Bobkoff. Quoting from the MuCCC website:
"The Man At The Piano Is Not Here" is a dramatic monologue with music on the life of Clara Schumann. In 1854 Robert Schumann was committed to a mental asylum in Endenich, Germany, where he died in 1856. Clara returned to the concert world with sustained musical energy and success, and always wore black.

Also see McGrain's sculptures of recently-extinct birds around the Eastman House grounds. The film will screen again tomorrow at 2 p.m. [source: Dryden calendar, 2012-Jul-23]

Monday, July 30
- This evening at 7 p.m. in the Eastman Quadrangle of the University of Rochester is another of the Hopeman Memorial Carillon Summer Recital Series with Koen Cosaert of Belgium leading a performance. I checked it out last week and it's quite amazing to think there's a group of people pulling ropes to make that music happen. [source: University of Rochester Events Calendar, 2012-Jul-10]

Tuesday, July 31
- Tonight at 8 p.m. at the Dryden is a screening of The Endless Summer (Bruce Brown, US 1966, 95 min.) Here's what the calendar has to say:
With a 16mm camera and guileless enthusiasm, filmmaker Bruce Brown set off on a globe-trotting journey with two surfheads in search of "the perfect wave." The result is a Technicolor wonder that maintains the coziness of a family slide show. With an unforgettable surf music soundtrack, The Endless Summer is an iconic time capsule of a gentler counterculture.

Wednesday, August 1
- The Dryden is screening The Naked Prey (Cornel Wilde, South Africa/US 1966, 96 min.) tonight at 8 p.m. Quoting the calendar:
Survivalist Wilde directs himself in this heart-pounding adventure about a white guide in 19th-century Africa who winds up the game in a terrifying hunt across the veldt. Stripped of his clothes and the last vestiges of colonial comfort by an angry tribe, he must fight to survive.
