He promises to write Pauline every day, but she receives no word from the front. Pauline's sister, Elizabeth (M&eacute;lanie Laurent), fearing the worst, takes up the captain's correspondence to let Pauline down easy. Years later, when Neuville returns broke and disheveled, Elizabeth needs to think fast to synthesize the legend she has created with the man who has returned.
