{"id":503,"date":"2010-01-02T20:00:50","date_gmt":"2010-01-03T00:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jayceland.com\/blog\/?p=503"},"modified":"2010-01-05T20:05:11","modified_gmt":"2010-01-06T00:05:11","slug":"black-dynamite-at-the-dryden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jayceland.com\/blog\/archive\/2010\/01\/02\/black-dynamite-at-the-dryden\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Dynamite at the Dryden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christina and I went to the <strong>Dryden Theater<\/strong> at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastmanhouse.org\/\">George Eastman House<\/a><\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=900+East+Ave,+Rochester,+NY&amp;ll=43.15138,-77.58015&amp;spn=.01,.02&amp;hl=en\">900 East Ave.<\/a>) to see <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1190536\/\">Black Dynamite<\/a><\/strong>.  Although I feel like I've seen some \"blaxploitation\" films in the past, in retrospect, I guess I've only really seen <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0067741\/\">Shaft<\/a><\/strong>.  Well, maybe a few others.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1190536\/\">Black Dynamite<\/a><\/strong> does a virtually perfect job of honoring that genre (as best as I can tell, anyway).  The movie is hilarious (I'm much more certain about that).  Every time I recognized when they were setting up a stereotypical blaxploitation moment, I was braced for a mediocre punch-line.  But every time, I was impressed that the filmmakers went in a direction I didn't expect &mdash; and every time, one that was funnier than I could have expected.
