No matter: The second installment in Columbia's Sinbad trilogy featuring stop-motion master Ray Harryhausen's spectacular "Dynamotion" technique is a sequel in name only. Thankfully the winning formula—swashbuckling ship captain must voyage to distant\, monster-filled land to save imperiled Arabian kingdom from the forces of darkness—remains exactly the same. This time\, Barbarella's John Phillip Law dons Sinbad's turban and goes head-to-head with gargoyles\, cyclopean centaurs\, and one of Harryhausen's most complex creations: a six-armed\, scimitar-wielding idol which springs to life in inimitable Harryhausen style. DESCRIPTION:The 42 year old agency moved into the newly renovated space in December 2015\, and the LGBTQ Resource Center will provide a wide variety of resources to the entire Rochester Community. The Resource Center will focus on providing resources to the lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) communities\, but family\, friends and all allies will also find valuable resources in the new space.  The Rochester LGBTQ Resource Center is home to the Gay Alliance Library and Archives which includes nearly 10\,000 publications available for circulation. The Library collection also has rare books that are made available to researchers and students who visit the Center. SUMMARY:La Pointe Courte screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen La Pointe Courte (Agnès Varda\, France 1955\, 86 min.\, DCP\, French w/subtitles).  \nWeighing equally the struggle of a couple to sustain their relationship and the struggle of the impoverished inhabitants of a Mediterranean fishing village to survive\, La Pointe Courte is a seemingly clear extension of Italian Neorealism. First-time director Agnès Varda professed ignorance of the movement and claimed to have seen very few films at that point\, pointing instead to a literary influence in William Faulkner's The Wild Palms. Beyond the use of primarily non-professional actors and on-location shooting\, La Pointe Courte is\, in style\, like nothing else before it. Varda's application of a literary structure to cinematic expression\, with the assistance of editor Alain Resnais\, worked to loosen structural bounds and introduce counterpoint to narrative cinema\, earning it the distinction of what historian Georges Sadoul would call\, "truly the first film of the nouvelle vague."
