DESCRIPTION:Gallery Q will host and Opening Reception for art by James Lewis.  \nThis exhibition highlights three bodies of work Lewis has been creating over the past 15 years: Snap Shots\, Daddy Art\, and Hillside Party Scenes. An active member of the Empire Bears and a frequent camper at Hillside\, a gay campground in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania\, Lewis draws inspiration from his community and camp experiences. In Snap Shots he portrays intimate and candid scenes of family and friends in which personal narratives begin to emerge. His portraits of members of the Bear community in his Daddy Art series border on humorous and sensual. These two bodies of work culminate with Hillside Party Scenes\, which are candid snapshots of his community at Hillside. Lewis states\, "these are scenes celebrating hedonism but also the camaraderie shared by the campers that frequent the grounds." Lewis is an RIT graduate with a degree in painting and has lived in Rochester for 33 years. Forster plays John Cassellis\, a news cameraman who discovers his footage is being handed over to the FBI and becomes enraged. After being fired\, he finds a job as a freelancer during the Democratic National Convention in 1968. Partially shot against the backdrop of the actual convention\, director Haskell Wexler's cinema verité style blurs the lines between reality and fiction. Cherry is hired by Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson) to bail out smuggler Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) after she is caught with some of Ordell's money and drugs. Ordell plans to murder Jackie before she can testify to the Atf\, but Jackie has another plan in mind. Following Qiwen across Guizhou province\, Luo crosses paths with a series of colorful characters\, among them a prickly hairdresser played by Taiwanese superstar Sylvia Chang. Past and present blur into an engaging\, hypnotic picaresque. DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen The Gold Rush (Charles Chaplin\, U.S. 1925\, 95 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Canon series.  \nBursting with iconic imagery\, Charlie Chaplin's first starring vehicle for United Artists was a blockbuster hit. Chaplin's "little tramp" character is transplanted to the Klondike amidst gold speculation. Stranded in a blizzard\, the Tramp stumbles into a cabin with two burly prospectors that maintain an uneasy truce only to the point of betrayal. Scenes such as the "roll dance\," Chaplin eating his shoe\, the waltz\, and the cabin teetering on the edge of oblivion have worked their way into the collective cinematic consciousness.
