SUMMARY:Extra Ordinary\,Night of the Living Shred screenings
DESCRIPTION:The Cinema will host a screening of Extra Ordinary (Mike Ahern\, Enda Loughman\, Ireland / Belgium 2019\, 94 min.) as part of Anomaly—The Rochester Genre Film Festival\, preceded by Night of the Living Shred (Boris Sapozhnikov\, U.S. 2018\, 5 min.): "A pair of skateboarders fight for their lives when the dead rise from the grave for one last ride." \nFollowing a tragic accident from her past\, sweet\, mild-mannered Rose (comedian Maeve Higgins) has turned her back on her supernatural ghost-whispering abilities to focus on her job as a small-town driving instructor. But when desperate Martin (Barry Ward) contacts Rose to help save his daughter from the clutches of a past-his-prime rocker star (Will Forte) who's made a pact with the Devil to regain his fame\, she must find a way to tap back into those talents again. And just maybe save the whole world in the process. \nWith charming performances\, and hilariously weird special effects\, Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman's hilarious and surprisingly sweet paranormal rom-com is about finding unexpected romance amidst ghostly possessions\, virgin sacrifices\, and gallons of gooey ectoplasm. \n\n [source: Anomaly—The Rochester Genre Film Festival website\, 2019-Nov-4]

SUMMARY:Give Me Liberty screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Give Me Liberty (Alice Austen\, Kirill Mikhanovsky\, U.S. 2019\, 110 min.\, 35mm). \nOne of the breakouts of this year's Sundance Film Festival\, this American independent follows Milwaukee medical transport driver Vic on a particularly stressful day. In addition to his regular clients\, Vic is the only one that can transport his Russian grandfather and his émigré friends to a funeral\, while taking on a suspicious relative of the deceased. When roads are closed due to a protest of police brutality\, a new route delays his scheduled clients\, particularly Tracy (social media star and physically disabled lifestyle influencer Lauren "Lolo" Spencer in a stunning debut)\, a vibrant young woman with ALS. As the day goes from hectic to off-the-rails\, their collective ride becomes a hilarious\, compassionate\, and intersectional portrait of American dreams and disenchantment. The distributor\, Music Box Films\, made one 35mm print for this release. Come see this film the way you won't be able to see it anywhere else! \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2019-Nov-4]

SUMMARY:Sarah Borges and The Broken Singles featuring Eric "Roscoe" Ambel musical performance
DESCRIPTION:As rock phenoms go\, Sarah Borges has never been easy to pin down. Since bursting onto the national scene in 2005 as the lead singer of the Broken Singles\, she hasn't allowed a speck of dust to settle on her sound or her story. Instead\, the Massachusetts native has just kept on moving and shaking. \nShe's gone from front woman to solo act\, to front woman again. She's deftly navigated the weird road that winds from emerging artist to veteran performer. She's made seven records and racked up countless touring miles. She's collected shiny things\, including an Americana Music Award nomination\, multiple Boston Music Awards\, and song credits on TV shows Sons of Anarchy and The Night Shift. Bands like Los Strait Jackets and Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys have brought her out on the road with them. Cowboy laureates Steve Berlin and Dave Alvin have lined up to collaborate with her. \nAs if all that wasn't fodder enough for a compelling rock 'n' roll narrative\, in the last few years Sarah has been married and divorced\, become a mother\, and gotten sober. It's a whole lot of moving and shaking for someone who just turned 40\, but don't expect to find her pumping the brakes anytime soon. \n"I'm not slowing down\," Borges says. "I'm gonna keep on seeking the next sound\, the next song\, the next chapter of who I am." \n\n [source: Abilene Bar and Lounge website\, 2019-Nov-4]

SUMMARY:You Don't Nomi\, It's Not Custard screenings
DESCRIPTION:The Cinema will host a screening of You Don't Nomi (Jeffrey McHale\, U.S. 2019\, 92 min.) as part of Anomaly—The Rochester Genre Film Festival\, preceded by It's Not Custard (Kate McCoid\, U.K. 2018\, 6 min.): "Louise suffers unrelenting acne and continual bullying\, everywhere she goes. After wishing to ease her suffering\, she awakes to find her acne gone… but wishes always come with unexpected side effects." \nDiving deep into the evolution of a cult classic\, director Jeffrey McHale's wildly entertaining documentary offers up an affectionate look at the journey of Paul Verhoeven's trashtastic showbiz saga Showgirls\, as it overcame a disastrous theatrical release to find a following amongst a community of adoring fans. \nIn tracing Showgirls' journey from notorious flop to cult classic and unlikely artistic resurrection\, You Don't Nomi takes a thought-provoking and entertaining look at an unforgettable piece of American popular culture and the surprising ways we connect with film and each other. \n\n [source: Anomaly—The Rochester Genre Film Festival website\, 2019-Nov-4]

SUMMARY:VHYes\, The Glory Years screenings
DESCRIPTION:The Cinema will host a screening of VHYes (Jack Henry Robbins\, U.S. 2019\, 72 min.) as part of Anomaly—The Rochester Genre Film Festival\, preceded by The Glory Years (Garrett Burns\, U.S. 2019\, 6 min.): "A former child star from popular 90's sitcom "The Glory Years" finds herself as the special guest at a 90's-nostalgia cult gathering." \nOn Christmas day 1987\, Ralph receives the totally rad gift of a VHS camcorder and just like any red-blooded American child\, he's eager to test out his new toy. SUMMARY:Hornets' Nest play reading: Little Lives by Shara Feit
DESCRIPTION:At the Women's Care Crisis Pregnancy Center\, the new trainee is learning the ropes\, the protestors are stationed outside\, and the abortion clinic next door is selling damnation. Then everything changes. In Shara Feit's two-part drama Little Lives\, two staffs of women must reckon with the true cost of fighting for life. We explore the American abortion debate from an intersection of gender\, religion\, and healthcare as we ask: how do we uphold what is best for others without violating our personal moral integrity? If we are obligated to protect the most vulnerable amongst us\, how do we decide who that is? \n [source: Geva Theatre Center website\, 2019-Nov-4]

SUMMARY:Raise Hell: The Life and Times Of Molly Ivins screening (2019-Nov-12 @ 7 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Raise Hell: The Life and Times Of Molly Ivins (Janice Engel\, U.S. 2019\, 93 min.) followed by a Panel Discussion with Meaghan McDermott\, Megan Mack\, and Evan Dawson as part of the One Take Documentary Series. \nRaise Hell: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins tells the story of media firebrand Molly Ivins\, six feet of Texas trouble who took on the Good Old Boy corruption wherever she found it. Her razor sharp wit left both sides of the aisle laughing\, and craving ink in her columns. She knew the Bill of Rights was in peril\, and said "Polarizing people is a good way to win an election and a good way to wreck a country." Molly's words have proved prescient. Now it's up to us to raise hell. \n [source: Little Theatre calendar\, 2019-Nov-11]

SUMMARY:Bronenosets Potemkin (Battleship Potemkin) screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Bronenosets Potemkin (Battleship Potemkin\, Sergei Eisenstein\, Soviet Union 1925\, 66 min.\, 35mm) with live piano accompaniment by Dr. Philip C. Carli as part of the Silent Tuesdays series. \nConsistently voted one of the best films of all time\, this classic memorializes the struggle of the First Russian Revolution in 1905 and its aftermath. Conceived by the Soviet government to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the revolt\, it was originally intended to show many events that happened in that fateful year. Due to time constraints and deteriorating weather\, director Sergei Eisenstein abandoned much of the original script and focused on the single episode of the Potemkin and the resulting massacre in Odessa. Eisenstein used his philosophy of editing and montage to make the Odessa Steps sequence one of the most enduring in world cinema. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2019-Nov-4]

SUMMARY:Boyz N the Hood screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Boyz N the Hood (John Singleton\, U.S. 1991\, 112 min.\, 35mm) as part of the In Memoriam: John Singleton series. \nJohn Singleton (1968—2019) was born and raised in Los Angeles\, where he attended the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Just a year after he graduated\, his debut film was released to wide acclaim. Singleton wrote the script based on episodes in his own life and those of people he knew\, and he insisted that he direct it. The film follows Tre (Cuba Gooding Jr.)\, Ricky (Morris Chestnut)\, and Doughboy (Ice Cube)\, childhood friends growing up as young men in South Central La. While Tre and Ricky have collegiate aspirations\, Doughboy has joined a gang and has recently been released from prison. Over the summer\, their lives will change forever. Though his film career was relatively short\, Singleton was incredibly influential not only in American popular culture in general\, but specifically to a new generation of upcoming African American filmmakers. He was the first African American to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director\, and to this date is the youngest nominee for that award as well as for Best Original Screenplay. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2019-Nov-4]
