SUMMARY:Flower City | Flour City Art Installation
DESCRIPTION:This is an opening celebration of the new studio space in the Anderson Arts Building (#214). There will be an installation of fabricated objects and screen prints created by me\, Bill Klingensmith—MYDARNDEST. The concept of this work is how the City of Rochester refers to itself as the "flauË™(-?)r" city. Opening the interpretation up to the receiver. No one is wrong with their answer: Flower or Flour. The divide to which one or the other as better/correct still falsely resonates today. The fact is our city actually has a strong history in both\, creating One city. \n [source: Facebook\, 2015-Sep-28]

SUMMARY:I Am Trying to Break Your Heart screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (Sam Jones\, US 2002\, 92 min.\, 35mm). \nI Am Trying to Break Your Heart was conceived as a documentary about the making of what became Wilco's most popular album\, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot\, but this film became a classic David and Goliath story where artistic integrity triumphs over crass commercial interests in every way possible. As fate would have it\, award-winning photographer and first-time director Sam Jones captured a critical time involving seismic shifts in the structure and evolution of the band. You can call it a rockumentary or a drama\, and for that reason\, this movie appeals to die-hard Wilco fans and the uninitiated alike. This print\, acquired by George Eastman House earlier this year\, serves as a reminder of the museum's wide-ranging moving image collection. Preceding the film\, beloved local musician John Link will perform several acoustic renditions of Wilco's songs in the Dryden lobby. Special presentation by Ben Tucker\, assistant collection manager and archival projectionist\, Moving Image Department. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-Sep-28]

DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen The Night of The Hunter (Charles Laughton\, U.S. 1955\, 93 min.\, 35mm). \nThis gorgeously evocative amalgam of Grimm's Fairy Tales\, German Expressionism\, and Depression-era drama is a unique masterpiece in the history of cinema. SUMMARY:Where Should the Birds Fly screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Where Should the Birds Fly (Fida Qishta\, Occupied Palestinian Territory 2013\, 58 min.) as part of the 2015 Witness Palestine Film Series. \nWe see life in Gaza through the eyes of two young women\, Mona Samouni\, and the filmmaker\, Fida Qishta. Qishta returns to Gaza in 2006\, following a 'nightmare' three-week wait at the Rafah border crossing. She reports on the daily reality for Gaza residents\, which includes home demolitions\, Israeli snipers shooting at farmers\, and Israeli gunboats challenging fishermen. We learn of Israel's use of white phosphorus bombs and the injuries caused. Mona Samouni's story is particularly powerful. She's a 10-year-old from Zeiton\, near Gaza City\, where multiple members of her family were killed during Israel's Cast Lead operation\, including her father and mother. Somouni's story is not for the faint of heart. There are significant images of wounded and dead adults and children. The title references a quote from Palestinian poet and author Mahmoud Darwish (1942-2008)\, "Where should we go after the last frontiers? Where should the birds fly after the last sky?" \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2015-Sep-28]

SUMMARY:Al Helm: Martin Luther King in Palestine screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Al Helm: Martin Luther King in Palestine (Connie Field\, U.S. / Occupied Palestinian Territory 2014\, 93 min.) as part of the 2015 Witness Palestine Film Series. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. \nWhile capturing the growing non-violent movement of young people in Palestine\, this film brings a fresh perspective for understanding the realities of Palestinian life under occupation. Come travel with an African-American gospel choir and with MLK Scholar Clayborne Carson\, the author of a play about Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. In collaboration with members of the Palestinian National Theatre\, Carson and the choir adapt and then perform the play for Palestinian audiences in the West Bank. Choir members\, drawn from devoutly Christian churches\, are traveling to the Middle East for the first time and witnessing the realities of life under occupation. Hoping to be a voice for change\, the author and the singers are themselves profoundly changed by the experience. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2015-Sep-28]

SUMMARY:Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (F.W. Murnau\, U.S. 1927\, 97 min.\, 35mm). \nAcclaimed German director F. W. Murnau's (Nosferatu\, The Last Laugh) first Hollywood film elicited extraordinary praise from the critics. Lighting\, camera angles and movement\, acting style\, judicious use of sound effects and music—all are smoothly integrated to tell the simple story of a man torn between his sweet country wife and a "vamp" from the city. The culmination of the silent cinema and a harbinger of things to come\, Sunrise won three Oscars\, including one for its Unique and Artistic Quality of Production. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-Sep-28]

SUMMARY:Resistencia: The Fight for the Aguan Valley screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Resistencia: The Fight for the Aguan Valley (Jesse Freeston\, Canada / Honduras 2014\, 92 min.) \nJune 28th\, 2009. The Honduran people are preparing to vote in the first referendum in the country's history. But\, instead of waking up to ballot boxes\, they see soldiers carrying out the first coup d'état in Central America in three decades. This is the story of the two thousand farming families who challenged the coup project by taking over the plantations of the most powerful landowner in the country and converting them into worker-run cooperatives. Shot over four years\, the film is both a testament to the capacity of an organized movement to transform the most fertile land in the country\, as well as an account of the coup regime's violent attempts to get the land back. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2015-Sep-21]
