DESCRIPTION:Tuba player Joe Daley is one of the premiere exponents of his instruments. He may be familiar with Bop Shop regulars as a member of Jason Hwang's Burning Bridge ensemble back in 2010. Daley has also played the Rochester Jazz Festival several times. But Daley's history is deep and multi-faceted. He was a member of Taj Mahal's Real Thing band with four tubas. He's contributed to various Gil Evans ensembles over the years. He was a member (along with drummer Warren Smith…more about him later) of Sam Rivers' Tuba Trio. While recordings released under his own name haven't been commonplace\, what he has released has been unique in jazz literature. Seven Deadly Sins recorded with a big band\, the Earth Tone Ensemble received great reviews when released in 2010. But it's his 2015 release\, The Tuba Trio Chronicles that's relevant to what we'll be hearing. Daniela Thomas's first feature film brings a feminist moral tale in the same territory of Fitzcarraldo through a subversive political twist: instead of being romanticized as in Werner Herzog's film\, the harsh reality of life in the Amazon forest is faithfully depicted in every historical detail\, from costumes to set design\, with the solemn elegance of a Greek tragedy. DESCRIPTION:Filmmaker Mimmo Calopresti will be on hand to discuss the screening of his films\, La fabbrica dei tedeschi (The German Factory\, Mimmo Calopresti\, Italy 2008\, 83 min.\, DCP\, Italian w/subtitles)\, and  Uno per tutti (One for All\, Mimmo Calopresti\, Italy 2015\, 82 min.\, DCP\, Italian w/subtitles).  \nThe German Factory explores the incident at the ThyssenKrupp steel factory on December 6\, 2007\, that killed seven workers—a fatal event that could have been avoided if security norms and quality control processes had been followed. The documentary digs into the causes\, still partly unknown\, while actors Valeria Golino\, Silvio Orlando\, Luca Lionello\, Monica Guerritore\, and Rosalia Porcaro act as relatives of the victims\, reenacting the hours before the tragedy struck. \n About One for All:  \nNow in their fifties\, Gil\, Vinz\, and Saro have known each other since childhood. Life has made them different from each other\, however. Gil is a wealthy real-estate builder and Saro is a police officer in Turin\, while Vinz is a doctor in southern Italy. When Gil's son\, an upperclass student\, stabs a fellow classmate during a fight\, Saro gets back to Turin to assist Gil.
