DESCRIPTION:Our daughters deserve to feel empowered\, uplifted\, and supported. This workshop aims to increase self-esteem and bring positive body image to girls. Through dance\, stretching\, crafting\, journaling\, and discussion\, girls attending this workshop will leave feeling as though they can take on the world!  We will do several craft activities\, including a body positive collage and making your own journal. There will also be stretching/yoga and dance that will bring awareness to the incredible feats our bodies are capable of. In between activities\, we will discuss the importance of supporting one another\, fighting against bullying and discrimination\, and loving our whole selves.  All materials will be provided\, as well as light snacks. Parents are welcome to stay and observe\, but do not need to and can drop kids off. Created and shot in the virtual world of Second Life\, this award-winning machinima video series re-imagines the history of colonization from the point of view of native peoples in a science-fiction future. Co-presented with PLASMA at the Department of Media Study.  Skawennati makes art that addresses history\, the future\, and change. Her pioneering new media projects include the online gallery/chat-space and mixed-reality event\, CyberPowWow (1997-2004); a paper doll/time-travel journal\, Imagining Indians in the 25th Century (2001); and TimeTravellerâ„¢ (2008-2013)\, a multi-platform project featuring nine machinima episodes. These have been widely presented across North America in major exhibitions such as "Now? Now!" at the Biennale of the Americas; and "Looking Forward (L'Avenir)" at the Montreal Biennale.
