Seiter\, U.S. 1933\, 68 min.\, 35mm) as part of the UCLA Festival of Preservation Tour series.  \nStan Laurel and Oliver Hardy's fourth feature-length comedy\, Sons of the Desert\, begins at a secret meeting of the boys' eponymously titled fraternal lodge. Amid secret handshakes and tarbooshes\, the "exhausted ruler" swears attendance at the lodge's 87th annual convention in Chicago. When their wives forbid them to go\, Hardy comes up with a ruse. Stan and Ollie sneak off to Chicago to eat\, drink\, and make merry with their lodge brothers until a maritime disaster and an incriminating newsreel expose the charade\, culminating in a last act that is perhaps the funniest of Laurel and Hardy's career. The movie was one of the top ten films of the year grossing over $1 million worldwide upon its original release. SUMMARY:IJY (Ian and John Yeara) musical performance
DESCRIPTION:In 1976 John started Revolver as a drummer with Bruce Hummel and Mark Guarino. After a few months\, he switched to guitar. Revolver first disbanded in early 1980 and John went on to form Grey Haven. During this time John entered College as a music major w/ guitar as his major instrument. Later\, when Grey Haven disbanded\, John formed "Olias". John would finish his B.S. and M.S. in Music education and begin a career teaching music in 1987.  In 1990 John helped form "No Alibi" with his wife also singing. That band would morph into "The JY Allstars" and then "Joe Puma and the Panthers". In 1992\, John joined The Connectors. John also released a CD of solo material in 1995 called "From Mr. Sixty Six". The C.D included performances by many of his friends in local music including Lee David (Center Stage\, East Coast Connection)\, Linda (Rutherford) Marino (Celtic Fire)\, Jim Kerins (Nik and The Nice Guys)\, and Elvio Fernandes (Daughtry\, Uncle Plum).  John stayed in The Connectors until 1996 when He and Mark Guarino brought back Revolver as a Beatle Tribute band. Eventually\, Revolver got absorbed by and became "The East Coast Connection" in 2004. John left East Coast in 2006 and he and 2 other East Coast members formed "Nbt" with Ron Rocco on Drums. This group stopped performing together in 2009.  Over the years\, John Yeara has done some fill in work w/ a few well known popular groups such as "No Camouflage"\, "Private Drive"\, "Oasis"\, "Take 5"\, and "7th Heaven"  In 2010\, John Yeara and Bruce Hummel hooked up again and restarted Revolver. Since then Bruce has left and the band now features Tim Coon on Bass\, Tom Savastano on drums and Don Mancuso on guitar\, While Jy handles more rhythm guitar and some keyboards while still singing quite a bit. Jy also performs w/ Don in an acoustic duet\, "J.Y. and Dee".  Ian began playing piano at the age of 6 w/ Mrs. Eleanor Fox and later also with Fred Dicesare. In 5th grade\, he began playing Sax as well and was taught by local virtuoso\, Tom Ellison. At the time\, he was always singing in chorus from 4th grade through H.S. With the Greece Arcadia High Jazz Band\, Ian performed at the Rochester Jazz Festival twice as a teenager. His first professional performance was with his father's group\, "NBT" in 2009. He played keyboards for the group in a packed house for two rush songs; 'limelight' and 'subdivisions'. For the past two years\, Ian has been a music business major at the Crane School in Potsdam\, N.Y. The Crane School has turned out many great conductors\, composers\, and performers including Opera Sensation Renee Fleming. Ian has often performed with Revolver on Vocals\, Keyboards\, and Sax. DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen The Murder of Fred Hampton (Howard Alk\, U.S. 1971\, 88 min.\, 16mm) and preceded by The Jungle (Charlie "Brown" Davis\, U.S. 1967\, 22 min.\, 35mm)—a short documentary created by teenagers about street life in North Philadelphia—as part of the UCLA Festival of Preservation Tour series.  \nA group of independent filmmakers in Chicago\, fashioning themselves as the Film Group\, set out to profile Chairman Fred Hampton\, the charismatic 21-year-old leader of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party\, and ended up documenting the last nine months of his life. During production\, in the early morning of December 4\, 1969\, Hampton's apartment and Party hangout was raided by officers assigned to State's Attorney Edward V. Hanrahan. During the ensuing assault\, Hampton and Mark Clark were killed and four others wounded. DESCRIPTION:Bop Shop Records is extremely happy to welcome back an old friend\, Japanese percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani. He's been living in the U.S. for the past 20 years and has played with many musicians in a variety of genres. This will be the fifth time this extraordinary percussionist has played at the store. We first met him in 2003 when he was the dynamo behind Sabir Mateen's fiery quintet\, the Shapes\, Textures And Sound Ensemble. But that didn't prepare us for our next encounter when he appeared in 2006 at an amazing solo concert. His set up which included a trap drum set\, gongs\, cymbals\, Tibetan bowls\, and all manner of small percussive instruments was integrated into a remarkable 45 minute performance that left the small crowd that attended it nearly as drained as the performer. DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Tomka Dhe Shokët e Tij (Tomka and His Friends\, Xhanfise Keko\, Albania 1977\, 80 min.\, 35mm; Albanian w/subtitles) as part of the Albanian Cinema Project series with a special introduction by Regina Longo\, director of the Albanian Cinema Project.  \nThe shorts and features of Xhanfise Keko\, all of which center on children's themes and preoccupations\, occupy a pivotal yet controversial place in Albanian cinema. These films were among the most popular of Albania's Communist era\, and remain widely loved. But this affection is now tempered with ambivalence about their association with an era many Albanians would prefer to forget. Keko was the only female Albanian feature film director in the Kinostudio era\, which ended in 1996. When she died in 2007\, she left behind a remarkable legacy of nearly a dozen features virtually unknown to outside audiences. The Albania Cinema Project's English-subtitled restoration of Tomka and His Friends is a rare chance to look at moving images from a society that was closed off from the rest of the world for decades.
