SUMMARY:Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock And Roll screening
DESCRIPTION:Starting at 7 p.m.\, the Little will screen Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock And Roll (John Pirozzi\, U.S. / Camobdia / France 2014\, 106 min.) followed by a videoconference Q&A with director John Pirozzi. \nThrough the eyes\, words and songs of its popular music stars of the 50's\, 60's\, and 70's\, Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock And Roll examines and unravels Cambodia's tragic past. Combining interviews with surviving musicians and never-before-seen archival material and rare songs\, the film tracks the winding course of Cambodian music as it morphs into a unique style of rock and roll. A vibrant musical culture that was nearly lost forever under the brutal Khmer Rouge regime is revived and celebrated. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2015-May-18]

SUMMARY:Mutiny on the Bounty screening
DESCRIPTION:At the Dryden at 8 p.m. is a screening of Mutiny on the Bounty (Frank Lloyd\, U.S. 1935\, 130 min.\, 35mm). \nIn the midst of a 1789 voyage to the West Indies\, master's mate of the HMS Bounty Fletcher Christian (Clark Gable) rebels against the sadistic Captain Bligh (Charles Laughton). The most breathtaking and expensive film of 1935 was based on historical incident\, but the combination of spectacular seascapes\, shipboard intrigue\, and Gable's and Laughton's battle for control make for a timeless story that will never be topped. Winner of an Academy Award for Best Picture\, this lavish MGM production was a career high point for Laughton\, whose performance seethes with nautical villainy. James Card screened this film as part of the second series he programmed for the Dryden in 1951\, its first year in operation. Titled Exceptional Films of the World\, the series strived to "conjure up shadows of some long-forgotten and some well-remembered films produced in nearly every country that regularly makes movies." Card chose Mutiny on the Bounty as the sole representative of American filmmaking. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-May-18]

SUMMARY:Prospero's Books screening
DESCRIPTION:Tonight at 8 p.m.\, the Dryden will screen Prospero's Books (Peter Greenaway\, U.K. 1991\, 127 min.\, 35mm). \nIt would not be quite accurate to say that Prospero's Books is an "adaption" of William Shakespeare's The Tempest. Rather\, Greenaway's film is a lively and deeply experimental reflection on the nature of reading and the materiality of books\, using the Bard's final play as a point of departure. When a violent storm casts Prospero (John Gielgud) astray on an unidentified island\, his vast library somehow survives with him. He resides in a state of limbo\, somewhere between reading and writing\, between life and death\, and it is from this perpetual in-between state that Prospero's Books finds its footing. The written and spoken word constantly invades the space of the film\, whether in the form of pages adrift in the mise-en-scène\, frames of text embedded within the image\, or Gielgud's magisterial voice. Like many of Greenaway's films\, Prospero's Books is best experienced not as a narrative to follow but as a kind of literary fever dream to which one surrenders. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-May-18]

SUMMARY:Occupy the Farm screening with Elizabeth Henderson
DESCRIPTION:Starting at 7 p.m. is a screening of Occupy the Farm (Todd Darling\, U.S. 2014\, 90 min.) at the Little followed by a discussion with Elizabeth Henderson. \nOccupy The Farm tells the story of a community's fight to save public land for urban farming. When 200 farmers march to the gates of the last farmland in the urban East Bay near Oakland\, they don't carry signs protesting University of California's plans to build a shopping center. Instead\, they carry tents\, tools and 15\,000 seedlings. They clip the padlock off the gate and march onto the fields. What happens next will change the fate of the land and introduce a new strategy for activism. From tilling soil and watering vegetables to police raids\, from lawsuits to overflowing harvests\, Occupy The Farm reveals a resourceful\, creative\, and determined community responding with direct action to a serious social need: access to healthy food. \n [source: Little Theatre e-mail\, 2015-May-20]

SUMMARY:Grace performance (2015-May-28 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Grace is a tragicomedy that explores human assumptions about how God\, goodness\, faith and causality operate in the cosmic machinery. Steve and Sara have relocated to Sunrise\, Florida to pursue an unbelievably wonderful business deal\, but as the deal slowly unravels and Steve finds himself afflicted with an itch that just won't stop\, Sara finds herself increasingly drawn to their next-door neighbor\, Sam\, a badly-scarred victim of a recent car accident who wants nothing to do with her or her Bible-quoting husband. In the end\, with a little help from an old German exterminator who's still angry about the Allied bombing of Hamburg in World War II\, all three characters are confronted by a world that's both better and worse than any religion can justify. \n [source: MuCCC website\, 2015-May-18]

SUMMARY:Der amerikanische Soldat (The American Soldier) screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Der amerikanische Soldat (The American Soldier\, R. W. Fassbinder\, West Germany 1970\, 80 min.\, 35mm\, German w/subtitles) tonight at 8 p.m. \nThree Munich cops have hired professional killer and Vietnam veteran Ricky (Karl Scheydt) to kill people they cannot kill as "guardians of the law." Before taking care of his task\, Ricky meets his old friend Franz (Fassbinder). Ricky's first victim is a gypsy\, the second is a girl who deals with porn magazines and sells information. Since her boyfriend is present\, Ricky kills him\, too. When Ricky requests a girl in the hotel\, his clients send him Rosa (Elga Sorbas)\, a lover of one of the cops. She falls in love with Ricky. After a brief visit with his mother and brother\, Ricky receives his last job. He is to kill Rosa. The final installment of Fassbinder's gangster trilogy is an utterly hypnotic\, deeply disturbing take on film noir\, with one of the most hauntingly beautiful and original killer endings in the entire history of cinema. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-May-25]

SUMMARY:Grace performance (2015-May-29 @ 7:30 p.m.)

SUMMARY:Wild Boys of the Road screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Wild Boys of the Road (William A. Wellman\, U.S. 1933\, 68 min.\, 35mm) tonight at 8 p.m. \nThe carefree fun of high school dances and graffiti-decorated jalopies is short-lived for friends Frankie Darro and Edwin Phillips when the deep despair of the Great Depression sinks in. With jobless parents unable to find employment\, the two teens take to the road looking for work to help support their families. What follows is a harrowing early initiation into the adult world of violence\, hunger\, and even rape. Wellman cast 19-year-old Busby Berkeley dancer Dorothy Coonan as the lead girl of the road (posing as a boy); she hated acting but loved her director and a year later the two were married. Coonan retired from the screen immediately after marrying Wellman (save for one small role in Wellman's 1945 film Story of G.I. Joe—screening Wednesday\, June 10) to raise their seven children\, and the two remained happily married until his death in 1975. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-May-25]

SUMMARY:Rock 'n' Roll High School screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little is screening Rock 'n' Roll High School ( Allan Arkush\, U.S. 1979\, 93 min.) as part of the Mondo Movie Series. \nVince Lombardi High School keeps losing principals to nervous breakdowns because of the students' love of rock 'n' roll and their disregard of education. The putative leader of the students is Riff Randell\, who loves the music of the Ramones. A new principal\, the rock-music-hating Miss Evelyn Togar\, is brought in and promises to put an end to the music craze. [spoilers omitted] \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2015-May-25]
