DESCRIPTION:In an effort to help our patients transition toward a more plant-based diet\, we are offering a hands-on class on knife skills. A plant-based diet requires one to slice\, dice and mince with ease. He currently works at MCC in the Hospitality Department. \nThis class is open to all Wilmot Cancer Institute patients and their caregivers \n\n [source: University of Rochester events calendar\, 2019-Sep-9]

SUMMARY:Joe Nolan musical performance
DESCRIPTION:It's hard to believe it was only in 2011 that Joe Nolan released his debut album\, Goodbye Cinderella. At that time he was heralded by the Globe and Mail\, No Depression and other publications as a roots rock wunderkind\, an opinion confirmed by his 2014 Colin Linden-produced follow-up\, Tornado. However\, along with the acclaim came complications at odds with his creative vision. \nNow the Edmonton\, Alberta native is back with Cry Baby\, an album that finally opens up what Nolan has kept locked tightly for the past three years. The 10-song collection is a trip through melancholic madness\, touching on darkness and depression\, broken relationships and endless booze-fuelled evenings. Yet\, at its core is Nolan's unwavering strength as a lyricist\, and his wounded-heart delivery that reminds us of our humanity. Cry Baby is\, in essence\, Nolan unapologetically sharing his story\, and through that finding a second chance and a new beginning. \n\n [source: Abilene Bar and Lounge website\, 2019-Sep-9]

SUMMARY:Other Music screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little Theatre will screen Other Music (Puloma Basu\, Rob Hatch-Miller\, U.S. 2019\, 83 min.) for Art House Theater Day. \nOther Music was not just a record store in the village. It was a place where a generation discovered groundbreaking artists who became larger than life icons in the music scene. It was a destination for music lovers\, musicians\, and industry representatives\, where bands were formed and careers were launched. Other Music was and remains a symbol of independent music. It was a place that not only spotlighted those in independent music\, but also served as a great influence on the music scene in New York City. \nThe film chronicles the store's 20-year history\, featuring bands such as Animal Collective\, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs\, Vampire Weekend\, Interpol\, TV On The Radio\, and more. As retail stores continue to disappear\, the film is an example of how the community and spirit of one much-loved independent record store lives on. \n\n [source: WNY Shows website\, 2019-Sep-9]

SUMMARY:Town X theatrical performance (2019-Sep-19 @ 7 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Encounter (Baltimore-based magic team of Annie Montone and Brian Kehoe) is back at Rochester Fringe with their new narrative magic smash-up\, "Town X." There's been an event in Town X\, and the entire community — including you — is on hand for an emergency meeting. The doors are locked\, the cell phones down\, and the radio says something that sounds like invasion. Part theater piece\, part magic show\, you haven't seen anything until you've seen The Encounter. \n [source: Writers and Books website\, 2019-Sep-16]

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Thou Art... Will Give... by Eric Kunsman
DESCRIPTION:The Flower City Arts Center will host an Opening Reception for Thou Art… Will Give… by Eric Kunsman\, on display through October 26. \nThou Art… Will Give… is an exhibition of photographs by Eric Kunsman documenting the Eastern State Penitentiary\, a former prison in Philadelphia\, PA. Through this body of photographs Eric offers some of the atmosphere experienced by the prisoners when the Penitentiary was active. Photographs of entries from the Warden's 1800s logbooks blend with Eric's photographs to give a historical sense of the prisoners and their treatment. Through these images and text\, visitors can share some of loneliness\, hopelessness\, and desperate search for redemption that drove many of the spirits still trapped within the walls of Eastern State. \n [source: Flower City Arts Center website\, 2019-Sep-16]

SUMMARY:Opening Reception\, Punctures: Textiles in Digital and Material Time
DESCRIPTION:The Squeaky Wheel will host an Opening Reception for Punctures: Textiles in Digital and Material Time including a performance at 9 p.m. by Charlie Best. \nSqueaky Wheel is pleased to announce Punctures: Textiles in Digital and Material Time. Drawing from the little-known but expansive history connecting media arts and textile production\, the exhibition features artists invested in the material\, critical and liberatory politics of their intersections. \nFrom the Lumière brothers taking the intermittent motion of a sewing machine to create the cinematograph\, to the punch cards of the Jacquard loom forming the basis of modern computation\, and the role of sewing and gendered labor in jobs like editing and dyeing in film production\, textile production remains an essential\, but insufficiently unacknowledged formal and social influence on media arts. These underpinnings aim to not only explicate an alternate history\, but are meant to find ways to speculate new futures for media practice. \nConsisting of three exhibitions and public programs that weave into each other\, audiences will engage with artworks exploring a wide range of practices including\, trans fashion and domesticity; gendered and immigrant labor under global racial capitalism; Gelede women's commemoration\, protest and power as represented in textile work; speculative future-casting through Oglala Lakota knowledge systems\, and more. \n\n [source: Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center website\, 2019-Sep-16]
