In 1982\, the American Library Association launched Banned Books Week\, an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and express ideas. More than 11\,300 books have been challenged since 1982\, making the event and the attention it draws to the dangers of censorshop as important as ever.  In honor of this year's Banned Books Week (September 27-October 3\, 2015)\, the River Campus Libraries is hosting a Read Out on Thursday\, October 1 from 3-4 p.m. in the Q&I area of Rush Rhees Library. University leadership\, faculty\, staff\, and students will read short passages in any language from their favorite banned or challenged books. DESCRIPTION:The fifth annual George Eastman House Photo Finish 5K will take place on Saturday\, October 3\, 2015\, at 8 a.m. With a great course through Rochester's Neighborhood of the Arts\, the run/walk is open to all—from competitive runners and people using wheelchairs\, to casual joggers\, dedicated walkers\, and entire families.  Also called "The Philanthropy Challenge\," the race aims to raise funds for George Eastman House as well as other nonprofit organizations that make Rochester a great place to live and work. The race is unique among Rochester running events in that George Eastman House staff and volunteers manage all of the event organization\, but participants may form teams to raise funds for the charities of their choice. DESCRIPTION:Details: Meet in the lobby of the Rundel Memorial Building of the Rochester Public Library\, 115 South Ave. Led by the Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library. Tours leave at 10:30am\, 12:30pm and 2:30pm each day. Free tickets are required and will be handed out at the door on a first-come\, first-served basis starting when the library opens at 10am and until the day's spaces are filled. No advance registration. Space is very limited. Tours will visit the Lower Stacks\, where a trap door to the old millrace will be opened for viewing and participants can learn how the river is a natural air conditioner for the building. The tours will also visit the Upper Stacks\, where participants may hear about various ghostly experiences staff have had in the building. Tours will stop in the Local History and Geneaolgy Division and learn about some special items in the library's collection.
