SUMMARY:Stage Door Project: Once theatrical performance
DESCRIPTION:Continuing Geva Theatre Center's mission of placing our work at the crossroads of artistic excellence and community engagement\, we invited Bishop Kearney High School to collaborate with us on the award-winning musical\, Once. \nThe Bishop Kearney production of Once\, directed by Paula Steffen\, includes a young company of high school actors\, Bishop Kearney alumni performing as the musicians\, and students who have been learning about production\, stage management\, publicity\, dramaturgy\, and more from the Geva's staff and creative team of Once. Each onstage and offstage student participant shared the process of exploring Once alongside their professional counterpart from within the Geva company. \nThe student cast connected with their professional actor counterparts from the Geva cast through character insight sharing sessions\, a cast-to-cast dinner\, and visits to multiple rehearsals at Geva including the first rehearsal\, several working rehearsals\, tech\, and opening night. The student creative team also met with\, shadowed\, and shared discoveries alongside the Geva departments they were reflecting. In turn\, the Geva company of Once attended a student cast rehearsal at Bishop Kearney High School\, and will be in the audience to cheer on their student counterparts at their performance on Geva's Wilson Stage on Monday\, March 9th (incorporating the existing lighting\, sound\, and scenic elements created for our own production of Once\, into their production\, and with Geva's full crew and technical support). \n\n [source: Geva Theatre Center website\, 2020-Mar-2]

SUMMARY:Slay The Dragon screening (2020-Mar-10 @ 6:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Slay The Dragon (Chris Durrance\, Barak Goodman\, U.S. 2019\, 101 min.) followed by a videoconference conversation with with co-director Chris Durrance as part of the One Take Documentary Series. \nAfter the 2008 election\, a secretive\, well-funded partisan initiative poured money into state legislative races in key swing states to gain control of their redistricting processes and used high-tech analytics to dramatically skew voting maps based on demographic data. The result is one of the greatest electoral manipulations in U.S. history\, one that poses a fundamental threat to our democracy and exacerbates the already polarized atmosphere in Congress and state houses across the country. \nGerrymandering\, the practice of redrawing electoral maps to serve the party in power\, has been around for centuries. But in today's hyperpartisan political environment it has been taken to unprecedented extremes\, fueled by the elimination of corporate campaign contribution limits and the availability of vast amounts of personal information. \nThe effects of this audacious plan have continued to bear fruit through the 2018 midterms. But voters\, fed up with cynical efforts to sidestep the will of the majority\, have begun fighting back. In one example\, a grassroots movement led by a young woman with no political experience gathered hundreds of thousands of signatures to put an anti-gerrymandering initiative on the ballot in Michigan. \nThe new documentary Slay the Dragon shines a light on this timely issue\, and follows a handful of citizens' groups\, outraged by what they see as an attack on the core democratic principle that every person's vote should count equally\, as they battle party operatives and an entrenched political establishment to fix a broken system. \n\n [source: Little Theatre calendar\, 2020-Mar-4]

SUMMARY:Media Underground I: Naked Eye Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Naked Eye Cinema was the film program of ABC No Rio\, the infamous community activist space in NYC's Lower East Side. Organized by a group of artists including Jack Waters and Peter Cramer\, Naked Eye Cinema was among many collectives working at the intersection of art and activism in the 1980's and 1990's. Join us for a showcase of the film and video work that these artist collectives have created to document the AIDS crisis\, anti-corporate politics and the avant-garde scene of downtown New York. \nCurator Louis Chavez in attendance. \n\n [source: Visual Studies Workshop website\, 2020-Mar-2]

SUMMARY:DeeAnn musical performance
DESCRIPTION:'Stay Here' is a journey to Ella Fitzgerald to Beth Hart\, and Norah Jones to Duke Ellington\, sung by a stunning DeeAnn we've not yet heard. Start pouring the fine wine. Some things get better with age. DeeAnn gives of herself to such a degree that she elicits tears and gasps and goose bumps from audiences. In her lyrics\, she writes of inner struggle\, of redemption\, a woman's perspective; of social justice. \nFrom the small town of Niagara Falls\, NY\, DeeAnn was raised in a musical family\, learning standards that would eventually become her melodious bastion. As a songstress\, she draws much of the early inspiration from when she was introduced to the vocal stylings of Buffalo Blue Note legend\, DoDo Green\, attended multiple jazz jams\, and more often mimicked the smooth vocal stylings of her father\, singer Frank DiMeo\, who was a staple in both the local and larger community. \n\n [source: Lovin Cup website\, 2020-Mar-9]

SUMMARY:Slay The Dragon screening (2020-Mar-14 @ 3 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Slay The Dragon (Chris Durrance\, Barak Goodman\, U.S. 2019\, 101 min.) as part of the One Take Documentary Series.
