SUMMARY:Daniel Cainer\, Bonnie Abrams and Allen Hopkins musical performances
DESCRIPTION:In Abilene's intimate Upstairs Lounge\, from West London…the songwriting self-styled "comic bard of Anglo-Jewry" and Edinburgh Fringe winner…. Daniel Cainer. Smart\, funny\, timely and only slightly irreverent\, Cainer's deeply moving tales about his family and observational comedy are a joy. Brilliant rhyming and wordplay\, great musicianship and haunting tunes you won't forget. His songs and his music are for anyone who has ever wrestled with their home\, their heritage and their heart and is partial to bagels. What's not to like?! \n [source: Abilene website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:IWOC General Interest Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Rochester chapter of IWOC is having a general interest meeting where you can find out more about the national movement to organize prisoners\, the recent strikes and prisoner uprisings nation wide\, as well as what we are doing here in Rochester to help organize prisoners and call for an abolition of all jails and prisons. *The meeting will be ASL interpreted* "Members of the IWW have created the IWOC\, the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee\, which functions as a liaison for prisoners to organize each other\, unionize\, and build solid bridges between prisoners on the inside and fellow workers on the outside. Prison is a setup\, a big business\, there to make money off the People. Neither the setup\, nor the slavery inside of prisons can be combated without the conscious participation of prisoners and the working class on the outside through mutual aid\, solidarity\, and the building of working relationships that transcend prison walls and the politics of mass incarceration. The IWOC has been actively reaching out to prisoners while at the same time prisoners have been reaching out to the IWW for representation and assistance in building a prisoners union. The IWOC has taken up the cause and is helping prisoners in every facility organize and build a union branch for themselves\, which will together form a powerful IWW Industrial Union"-IWOC.noblogs.org \n [source: Facebook\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:Memento screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Memento (Christopher Nolan\, U.S. 2000\, 113 min.\, 35mm). \nMemento's reverse-motion opening scene immediately questions the role and reliability of photographs (and popular media) in the construction of memories. Leonard\, brilliantly portrayed by Guy Pearce\, suffers from anterograde amnesia and is unable to store recent memories. Eager to uncover the truth behind his wife's murder\, he conducts his own investigation using a system of notes\, Polaroid photos\, and tattoos. Nolan presents two timelines; a chronological one in black-and-white and a reversed order in color\, ultimately conveying a neo-noir style to the story. Both an exploration of modern photographic technologies and systems of memories\, Memento is a tense psychological thriller captured in a strikingly open-ended innovative structure. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:La Ronde theatrical performance (2016-Sep-23 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Bread and Water Theatre is hosting a performance of La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler. \nFirst published for private circulation in Vienna in 1900\, Arthur Schnitzler's famous play looks at the sexual morality and class ideology of his day through a series of sexual encounters between pairs of characters. When published in 1903\, it became an immediate best-seller\, scandalized Viennese society\, and a year later was censored. Schnitzler was accused of pornography and worse. By choosing characters across the social spectrum\, La Ronde offers a powerful view of how sexual contact transgresses boundaries of class. For mature audiences only. No cell phones or cameras allowed in the theatre for this production. \n [source: Bread and Water Theatre website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:Remine\, El Último Movimiento Obrero (Remine\, the Last Working Class Movement) screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Remine\, El Último Movimiento Obrero (Remine\, the Last Working Class Movement\, Marcos Martinez\, Spain 2014\, 102 min.\, DCP\, Spanish w/subtitles) as part of the Labor Film Series. \nIn 2012\, as global financial institutions harassed debt-ridden Spain\, the government introduced crushing austerity measures\, including a 63 percent reduction in subsidies to the coal industry. In northern Spain\, a stronghold of militant trade unions\, Asturian miners declared an unlimited strike\, occupied mines\, blockaded highways\, fought police\, and organized a mass protest march to Madrid\, nearly 300 miles away. Across Spain and internationally\, the miners' traditional methods of struggle and organization won wide sympathy and admiration\, culminating in a joyous demonstration of solidarity. Yet the future of Spanish coal mining remains in doubt. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:EIO — Ensemble of Irreproducible Outcomes musical performance
DESCRIPTION:EIO was formed in 2012\, in the wake of a collaboration with David D. McIntire and bassist Brian Padavic. Over the course of this project\, the notion of an ensemble that performed indeterminate works took hold and Ryan Oldham was invited to fill out the trio. All three are composers and all contribute to the group's repertoire. While the trio often performs from notation\, all of its works are designed to be realized differently each time they are performed. Thus\, every musical outcome is "irreproducible." In the works with electronics\, earlier performances are embedded into the electronic material\, usually transformed in some way\, yet providing an imperfect "memory" of the previous experiences. With each new performance\, this material is remixed\, and while certain dimensions will remain the same and be familiar to the musicians\, there are always some surprises. In this way we hope to mirror phenomena of nature and the workings of people's daily lives. \n [source: Bop Shop website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:A Town Called Panic: Double Fun screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen A Town Called Panic: Double Fun (Stéphane Aubier\, Vincent Patar\, France 2016\, 60 min.) \nWith disarming wit and hilarious visuals\, A Town Called Panic: Double Fun revels in the simple setup of three toys sent on increasingly surreal and freewheeling adventures. Cowboy and Indian are always up to some harebrained scheme\, with Horse left to clean up the mess. In Christmas Panic\, their out-of-control antics lead Horse to call Santa and cancel the presents. But the boys figure they can still save Christmas… if they break into their neighbor's house to steal his yule log! In Back to School Panic\, a class assignment yields a special prize\, but only Pig knows the answer. Cowboy and Indian use a special shrinking potion to sneak into Pig's brain\, where they discover a sodium-packed world of pig cops riding in bacon cars and sausage cycles. These new short films continue the brilliant\, over-the-top visual inventiveness that has given the series a dedicated cult following\, with a classic slapstick comedy sensibility that is perfect for all ages. This special Art House Theater Day release continues with the fun with an intermission featuring two classic A Town Called Panic shorts\, Lisa and Jan and Cow-Hulk\, where ill-behaved European backpackers and an alien microbe cause even more mayhem! \n [source: Little Theatre e-mail\, 2016-Sep-22]

SUMMARY:Time Bandits screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Time Bandits (Terry Gilliam\, U.K. 1981\, 110 min.) \nYoung history buff Kevin (Craig Warnock) can scarcely believe it when six dwarfs emerge from his closet one night. Former employees of the Supreme Being (Ralph Richardson)\, they've purloined a map charting all of the holes in the fabric of time and are using it to steal treasures from different historical eras. Taking Kevin with them\, they variously drop in on Napoleon (Ian Holm)\, Robin Hood (John Cleese) and King Agamemnon (Sean Connery) before the Supreme Being catches up with them. \n [source: Little Theatre e-mail\, 2016-Sep-22]

SUMMARY:La Ronde theatrical performance (2016-Sep-24 @ 7:30 p.m.)

SUMMARY:Greendale screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Greendale (Bernard Shakey\, U.S. 2003\, 87 min.\, 35mm). \nWho would have thought that one of the best American independent films of the decade would be shot in Super 8\, performed by nonprofessional actors and directed by a Canadian rock musician? Handmade on a shoestring budget in a small town\, Neil Young's fourth feature film looks like (and actually is) a home movie but displays an awesome cinematic talent and feels like an epic of universal appeal. Crazy Horse's haunting music and a deliberate revival of the 1970s anti-establishment protest show that creativity needs no money to produce a truly subversive\, compelling work of art. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:Multibird musical performance
DESCRIPTION:Multibird is the brand new project by Seth Faergolzia. Seth is well known for subtly harmonic\, experimental lyricism\, dynamic song structures\, and whip-crack-acrobatic vocals. Celebrated as a vibrant example of what happens when a musician turns a genre like folk upside down and inside out\, over time Faergolzia has come to represent something of a genre unto himself oft times nowhere near the folk aesthetic. \n [source: Facebook\, 2016-Sep-19]
