SUMMARY:Sirsy musical performance (2018-Dec-14 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Very good medium-tempo progressive rock from Sirsy will perform at Three Heads. \nSirsy is a Rock and Soul Duo with lots of pop sensibility and just the right amount of sass! Fronted by charismatic lead singer\, Melanie who is also the band's drummer (and plays a full drum kit standing up.) Melanie plays bass on a keyboard with her drum stick and even throws in some mean flute solos\, too. Rich Libutti plays a road worn and well loved Rickenbacker through a pedal board full of vintage effects. He also pays bass with his feet (and tells super nerdy Star Wars jokes). Sirsy is known for passionate performances that often include lots of stories from the road\, laughs\, and dance parties. It's a good time! :) \n [source: Facebook\, 2018-Dec-3]

SUMMARY:POTHOLES/BACHES: An Evening in the Swamp
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an interactive program that celebrates the end of the residency and the continuity of the Swamp. We begin with POTHOLES/BACHES\, a conversation between Buffalo's East Side and Puerto Rico's Panoramic Route that explores the possibilities between collective memory and history through film\, karaoke and participatory storytelling. This is followed by reflection\, communion\, and dancing\, as we usher the Swamp's transition out of the physical space of Squeaky and into the lived experience of the community. \n [source: Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center website\, 2018-Dec-3]

SUMMARY:Die Hard screening (2018-Dec-15 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Die Hard (John McTiernan\, U.S. 1988\, 132 min.\, 35mm) as part of the (Mostly) Happy Holidays series. \nBruce Willis changed the image of the 1980s action hero with his portrayal of "real guy" John McClane\, a New York cop caught in a terrorist hostage situation in his estranged wife's office building on Christmas Eve. Cut off from backup and from the bottom floors of the building\, McClane must use his training\, his instincts\, and even a bit of wry humor to save the money\, the hostages\, his wife\, and\, hopefully\, his marriage. The progenitor of its own subgenre of action fare\, here on a gorgeous 35mm print\, this film still has the ability to "blow you through the back wall of the theater!" \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2018-Dec-3]

SUMMARY:Yentl screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Yentl (Barbra Streisand\, U.S. 1983\, 133 min.\, 35mm) as part of the L'chaim: Celebrating Jewish Life series. \nBarbra Streisand purchased the story rights of Yentl ten years before she was able to convince Hollywood to make this film\, eventually becoming the director\, co-writer\, co-producer\, and star. In 1904 Poland\, Yentl is a young Jewish girl wishing to become a religious scholar—at the time exclusively the realm of men. She disguises herself as a boy and takes her late brother's name to study Talmudic Law. As Anshel\, she befriends Avigdor (Mandy Patinkin)\, who is engaged to Hadass (Amy Irving). When Hadass's family rejects the engagement\, Avigdor convinces Anshel/Yentl as his best friend to marry her instead. Yentl won an Oscar for Best Original Score\, and Streisand was the first woman to win Best Director at the Golden Globes. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2018-Dec-3]

SUMMARY:Scrooge screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Scrooge (Ronald Neame\, U.K. 1970\, 113 min.\, 35mm) as part of the (Mostly) Happy Holidays series. \nCharles Dickens's immortal classic comes to life in this musical adaptation with songs and music by Leslie Bricusse\, who had recently done the same for the enormously popular Doctor Dolittle (1967). Albert Finney stars as the eponymous Ebenezer Scrooge\, a cruel employer and misanthrope who would rather not have to deal with the Christmas holiday at all and begrudges his sole employee the one day off. His fortunes change\, however\, when his cold heart and miserly ways are melted by the interference of four ghosts on Christmas Eve\, including a performance by Alec Guinness as Scrooge's late partner\, Marley. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2018-Dec-3]

SUMMARY:The Sun and Richard Lippold\, In Search of Hart Crane screenings
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen The Sun and Richard Lippold (Leo Hurwitz\, U.S. 1966\, 29 min.\, 16mm)\, and In Search of Hart Crane (Leo Hurwitz\, U.S. 1966\, 89 min.\, 16mm) as part of the Leo Hurwitz series. \nThe Sun and Richard Lippold\, an episode of the series USA Artists and the last film Hurwitz directed for National Educational Television\, illuminates Lippold's sculpture The Sun at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and how the play of sunlight contributes to the artist's creative output. In Search of Hart Crane allows Hurwitz and Crane biographer John Unterecker to explore Crane's poetry and life through interviews with the people who knew him best—including painters Charmion von Wiegand and Margaret (Peggy) Baird (who was engaged to Crane at the time of his death)\, authors Waldo Frank and Malcolm Cowley\, and architect William Lescaze. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2018-Dec-3]
