SUMMARY:Sweeping Forward screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Sweeping Forward (Patricia MacDowell\, Canada 2014\, 98 min.) with filmmaker Patricia MacDowell in attendance. \nAnne-Marie Saheb stars as Bess Lavigne\, a former curling prodigy who works part time doing cleaning in a women's shelter and at a local curling club. Her solitary existence is disrupted by intermittent panic attacks… but she's not the only one with problems. When Bess is asked to give curling lessons to the four troubled women from the shelter\, they all learn to overcome their differences and help one another\, and ultimately they discover a fierce bond on and off the ice. Panel style discussion about details of producing and creating her film to follow as well as audience Q&A. This is an excellent opportunity for local filmmakers to get incite into a reasonable sized successful project in the ultra-low/micro budget category many of our members work in. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2017-Apr-17]

SUMMARY:National Bird screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen National Bird (Sonia Kennebeck\, U.S. 2016\, 92 min.) as part of the Indie Lens Pop-Up Series. \nNational Bird follows the dramatic journey of three whistleblowers who are determined to break the silence around one of the most controversial current affairs issues of our time: The secret U. S. drone war. At the center of the film are three U.S. veterans. Tortured by guilt over participating in the killing of faceless people in foreign countries\, they decide to speak out publicly\, despite the possible consequences. Their stories take dramatic turns\, leading one of the protagonists to Afghanistan where she learns about a horrendous incident. But her journey also gives hope for peace and redemption. National Bird gives rare insight into the U.S. drone program through the eyes of veterans and survivors\, connecting their stories as never seen before in a documentary. \n [source: WXXI website\, 2017-Apr-21]

Why doesn't Norah leave Donato? Why does she stay with him to very end\, to find out what´s truly behind his search? A chance encounter between two desperate souls backed into a corner. SUMMARY:In the Name of the Father screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen In the Name of the Father (Jim Sheridan\, Ireland / U.K. / U.S. 1993\, 133 min.\, 35mm) as part of the 12 Postcards from Prison series. \nFour years after making his debut with the remarkable My Left Foot\, director Jim Sheridan reunited with Daniel Day-Lewis for this harrowing adaptation of Gerry Conlon's memoir Proved Innocent. In 1975 Conlon (played here by Day-Lewis) received a life sentence for participating in the IRA bombing of an English pub—a crime which resulted in five deaths of four British officers and a civilian\, but which Conlon did not\, in fact\, commit. The film is a riveting account of Conlon's ordeal\, but the emotional heart of the film lies in the embittered relationship between Conlon and his father (Pete Postlethwaite) who\, after being found guilty of assisting his son\, soon joins him behind bars. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2017-Apr-24]

SUMMARY:The Prison in Twelve Landscapes screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen The Prison in Twelve Landscapes (Brett Story\, Canada / U.S. 2016\, 90 min.\, DCP) with filmmaker Brett Story in attendance as part of the 12 Postcards from Prison series. \nMore people are imprisoned in the United States at this moment than in any other time or place in history\, yet the prison itself has never felt further away or more out of sight. The Prison in Twelve Landscapes is a film about prison in which we never see a penitentiary. Instead\, the film unfolds as a cinematic journey through a series of landscapes across the United States where prisons do work and affect lives\, from a California mountainside where female prisoners fight raging wildfires\, to a Bronx warehouse full of goods destined for the state correctional system\, to an Appalachian coal town betting its future on the promise of prison jobs. Discussion with director Brett Story will follow the screening. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2017-Apr-24]
