SUMMARY:Die Büchse der Pandora (Pandora's Box)
DESCRIPTION:Tonight at 8 p.m.\, the Dryden will screen Die Büchse der Pandora (Pandora's Box\, Georg Wilhelm Pabst\, Germany 1929\, 133 min.\, 35mm) with live piano accompaniment by Philip C. Carli. \nFor James Card\, there was only one Louise Brooks. The cineaste referred to his lifelong infatuation as an emotional devotion that had begun at the age of 14\, calling Brooks an inadvertent femme fatale who could in no way be coquettish or even deliberately seductive—ideal for the role of Lulu in Pandora's Box\, heroine of Frank Wedekind's beloved German plays. An innocently immoral sexual predator\, Lulu discards and destroys men as she tries to get ahead\, until she meets Jack the Ripper. The steamy story is a tangled web of intrigue and deception—the camera work\, sets\, and direction brilliantly economical\, powerfully simple. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-Apr-13]

SUMMARY:MAGIC Speaker Series with Molly Sauter discussing Where Is the Digital Street?
DESCRIPTION:From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Student Innovation Hall at RIT is a MAGIC Speaker Series with Molly Sauter discussing Where Is the Digital Street? \nThe internet is a vital arena of communication\, self expression\, and interpersonal organizing. When there is a message to convey\, words to get out\, or people to unify\, many will turn to the internet as a theater for that activity. As familiar and widely accepted activist tools—petitions\, fundraisers\, mass letter-writing\, call-in campaigns and others—find equivalent practices in the online space\, is there also room for the tactics of disruption and civil disobedience that are equally familiar from the realm of street marches\, occupations\, and sit-ins? This talk explores the potential of the internet as a zone for disruptive activism and the laws and social forces chilling the development of innovative political activism online. \n [source: Facebook\, 2015-Apr-13]

SUMMARY:Team America: World Police
DESCRIPTION:Starting at 8 p.m.\, the Dryden will screen Team America: World Police (Trey Parker\, U.S. 2004\, 98 min.\, 35mm). \nHistory lesson #6. This provocative\, volatile political essay from the hearts and minds behind the popular South Park television series clearly shows that Hollywood was concocting devious plans to assassinate popular Asian leaders already a decade ago. Multitalented Trey Parker (as Kim Jong Il\, Matt Damon\, Tim Robbins\, Sean Penn\, Michael Moore\, Helen Hunt\, and Susan Sarandon) and Matt Stone (as George Clooney\, Danny Glover\, and Ethan Hawke) present us with a world on a brink of destruction that can only be prevented by an elite counterterrorism organization Team America: World Police. SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Here\, There\, and Cuba by David Perlman\, and Jim Patton
DESCRIPTION:Tonight from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Image City Photography Gallery is Here\, There\, and Cuba by David Perlman\, and Jim Patton\, on display through May 17. \nOur next exhibit at Image City Photography Gallery is Here\, There\, and Cuba by David Perlman and Jim Patton. They have long contributed to the artistic and financial success of the Gallery as our Artists-in-Residence. Jim continues his global photo expeditions\, this time returning to Cuba where he finds Havana a fascinating mix of colonial architecture and Cuban culture that seems frozen in the 1950's in many respects. Jim's photos explore deteriorating buildings\, wonderful and friendly people\, a multifaceted dance culture\, and sixty-year-old cars that make Cuba one of the most intriguing places on the planet. David Perlman describes his exhibit "My work is eclectic\, lacking any coherent theme\, spontaneous\, and sometimes a wee bit contemptuous of the avant-garde. Actually\, I do it because it's fun!" We always enjoy their participations at Image City. \n [source: ICPG e-mail\, 2015-Apr-20]

SUMMARY:Ringu screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Ringu (Hideo Nakata\, Japan 1998\, 96 min.) as part of the Mondo Movie Series. \nReiko Asakawa is researching into a 'cursed Video' interviewing teenagers about it. When her niece Tomoko dies of 'sudden heart failure' with an unnaturally horrified expression on her face\, Reiko investigates. She finds out that some of Tomoko's friends\, who had been on a holiday with Tomoko the week before\, had died on exactly the same night at the exact same time in the exact same way. Reiko goes to the cabin where the teens had stayed and finds an 'unlabeled' video tape. Reiko watched the tape to discover to her horror it is in fact the 'cursed videotape'. Ex-Husband Ryuji helps Reiko solve the mystery\, Reiko makes him a copy for further investigation. Things become more tense when their son Yoichi watches the tape saying Tomoko had told him to. Their discovery takes them to a volcanic island where they discover that the video has a connection to a psychic who died 30 years ago\, and her child Sadako. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2015-Apr-20]
