SUMMARY:Team America: World Police
DESCRIPTION:Starting at 8 p.m.\, the Dryden will screen Team America: World Police (Trey Parker\, U.S. 2004\, 98 min.\, 35mm). \nHistory lesson #6. This provocative\, volatile political essay from the hearts and minds behind the popular South Park television series clearly shows that Hollywood was concocting devious plans to assassinate popular Asian leaders already a decade ago. Multitalented Trey Parker (as Kim Jong Il\, Matt Damon\, Tim Robbins\, Sean Penn\, Michael Moore\, Helen Hunt\, and Susan Sarandon) and Matt Stone (as George Clooney\, Danny Glover\, and Ethan Hawke) present us with a world on a brink of destruction that can only be prevented by an elite counterterrorism organization Team America: World Police. SUMMARY:MAGIC Speaker Series with Molly Sauter discussing Where Is the Digital Street?
DESCRIPTION:From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Student Innovation Hall at RIT is a MAGIC Speaker Series with Molly Sauter discussing Where Is the Digital Street? \nThe internet is a vital arena of communication\, self expression\, and interpersonal organizing. When there is a message to convey\, words to get out\, or people to unify\, many will turn to the internet as a theater for that activity. As familiar and widely accepted activist tools—petitions\, fundraisers\, mass letter-writing\, call-in campaigns and others—find equivalent practices in the online space\, is there also room for the tactics of disruption and civil disobedience that are equally familiar from the realm of street marches\, occupations\, and sit-ins? This talk explores the potential of the internet as a zone for disruptive activism and the laws and social forces chilling the development of innovative political activism online. \n [source: Facebook\, 2015-Apr-13]

SUMMARY:Die Büchse der Pandora (Pandora's Box)
DESCRIPTION:Tonight at 8 p.m.\, the Dryden will screen Die Büchse der Pandora (Pandora's Box\, Georg Wilhelm Pabst\, Germany 1929\, 133 min.\, 35mm) with live piano accompaniment by Philip C. Carli. \nFor James Card\, there was only one Louise Brooks. The cineaste referred to his lifelong infatuation as an emotional devotion that had begun at the age of 14\, calling Brooks an inadvertent femme fatale who could in no way be coquettish or even deliberately seductive—ideal for the role of Lulu in Pandora's Box\, heroine of Frank Wedekind's beloved German plays. An innocently immoral sexual predator\, Lulu discards and destroys men as she tries to get ahead\, until she meets Jack the Ripper. The steamy story is a tangled web of intrigue and deception—the camera work\, sets\, and direction brilliantly economical\, powerfully simple. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-Apr-13]

SUMMARY:Parklet Public Forum
DESCRIPTION:Today at 7 p.m. is a Parklet Public Forum at Joe Bean Coffee Roasters. \nJoe Bean Coffee—in collaboration with Staach\, Slow Road Consulting and the City of Rochester are working to create Rochester's first Parklet – A public green space outside of our coffee bar. We believe this is a step toward making our neighborhood more walkable\, bike-friendly and green. This public forum is meant to give the scope of the project\, answer questions and address concerns. The City of Rochester sees this as a pilot parklet program to be adopted city-wide in the near future. Please note—the coffee bar will not be open during the forum. \n [source: Facebook\, 2015-Apr-13]

SUMMARY:Dodsworth
DESCRIPTION:For today's Senior Matinee at 1:30 p.m.\, the Dryden will screen Dodsworth (William Wyler\, U.S. 1936\, 101 min.\, 35mm). \nDodsworth\, one of the most intelligent films of the 1930s\, is a study of a marriage in crisis. Produced by the legendary Samuel Goldwyn and directed by the great William Wyler\, Dodsworth was one of eight films the two collaborated on over the next ten years. Based on the Sinclair Lewis novel\, Sidney Howard adapted his Broadway play to the screen and Walter Huston reprised his role of Sam Dodsworth\, which he had played more than three hundred times on the stage. The cast also included Ruth Chatterton as Fran Dodsworth\, in one of the best roles of her career\, Mary Astor\, Paul Lukas\, Maria Ouspenskaya\, and David Niven in one of his first American films. The New York Times placed Dodsworth on their Ten Best Films list in 1936 and was one of the twenty highest grossing movies of the year. \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-Apr-13]

SUMMARY:The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean
DESCRIPTION:At 2 p.m.\, the Dryden will screen The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (John Huston\, U.S. 1972\, 122 min.\, 35mm). \nIn this film based on the true story of Pecos County\, Texas\, Justice of the Peace Roy Bean\, director and co-screenwriter (with John Milius) dispenses with any attempt at character discovery and paints a brawling\, tumultuous\, and sometimes very funny portrait of the man-myth and his life in the dying days of the West. The always watchable and screen-filling Paul Newman is Judge Roy Bean\, who lords his brand of justice over both the lawless and the righteous in equal measure. Richard Moore's Technicolor cinematography captures all the action in stunning visuals including what Roger Ebert called "a Technicolor vision of Ava Gardner wandering through the ruins of the frontier." \n [source: Dryden website\, 2015-Apr-13]
