SUMMARY:Two for the Road screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Two for the Road (Stanley Donen\, U.K. 1967\, 111 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Albert Finney series. \nAlbert Finney and a luminous Audrey Hepburn (in what some fans consider her finest performance) are bickering married couple Mark and Joanna\, visiting the North of France for the celebration of one of Mark's clients. As they make the trip\, they reflect on their relationship—which we see in flashback—from their first meeting to their early marriage and the difficulties of maintaining a mature relationship. The superb direction from Stanley Donen and the sterling script by Frederic Raphael (who cowrote Eyes Wide Shut) artfully evokes both the thrill of young romance\, as well as the hardships and rewards of married life. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2019-May-13]

SUMMARY:Asbury Park: Riot\, Redemption\, Rock 'n Roll screening (2019-May-22 @ 6:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Asbury Park: Riot\, Redemption\, Rock 'n Roll (Tom Jones\, U.S. 2019\, 116 min.) \nAsbury Park: Riot\, Redemption\, Rock 'n Roll tells the story of the long troubled town of Asbury Park\, and how the power of music can unite a divided community. A once storied seaside resort\, Asbury Park erupted in flames during a summer of civil unrest\, crippling the town for the next 45 years and reducing it to a state of urban blight. A town literally divided by a set of railroad tracks\, the riot destroyed the fabled Westside jazz and blues scene\, but from the flames of the burning city emerged the iconic Jersey sound. \nAsbury Park returns Asbury sons Steven Van Zandt\, Southside Johnny Lyon and Bruce Springsteen to the legendary Upstage\, the psychedelic after hours club where they got their start\, featuring never before seen interviews and performances. Shuttered for four and a half decades\, the Upstage remains a perfect time capsule of the Club which united both sides of the tracks in Asbury and acted as a crucible for young talent. Now\, as Asbury Park enjoys its long awaited renaissance\, it is music which has brought it back from the dead. \n\n [source: Little Theatre calendar\, 2019-May-20]

SUMMARY:Flower Drum Song screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Flower Drum Song (Henry Koster\, U.S. 1961\, 133 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Eastman Entertains series. \nNancy Kwan\, fresh from her success in The World of Suzie Wong\, steps into this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical about arranged marriages in San Francisco. Mei Li (Miyoshi Umeki) is a picture bride from China\, who has been chosen to marry Sammy Fong (Jack Soo)\, a nightclub owner who only has eyes for singer Linda Low (Kwan). Sammy instead tries to unload Mei Li on the Wang family\, who have been seeking a bride for their eldest son\, Wang Ta (James Shigeta)\, whom Linda is pursuing because of the family's money. The first major Hollywood film to feature a primarily Asian cast in a contemporary Asian-American story\, it would be the last for another three decades\, until The Joy Luck Club in 1993. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2019-May-13]

SUMMARY:Hornets' Nest: The Kavanaugh Files theatrical performance
DESCRIPTION:Geva Theatre Center will host a Hornets' Nest reading of The Kavanaugh Files by Joe Salvatore\, and Keith R. Huff. \nIn September 2018\, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford came forward with allegations that she had been sexually assaulted by then Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh when they were both teenagers. The allegations prompted a second set of hearings conducted by the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 27\, 2018. Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh both offered sworn testimony and faced questioning by members of the committee and a designated proxy\, Rachel Mitchell. Following these hearings\, the committee voted 11-10 to send the nomination to the Senate floor. On October 6\, 2018\, the Senate voted 50-48 to confirm Kavanaugh to become an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. \nThe Kavanaugh Files is a verbatim performance of key moments from the hearings. Actors perform the original words\, gestures\, and disfluencies of the real-life people\, and in most cases\, the genders have been inverted—women perform the roles that men had in the real hearings\, and men perform the women. How is our perception of a person's behavior influenced by their gender\, and how does that impact the ways in which we respond to national events? \n\n [source: Geva Theatre Center website\, 2019-May-13]

SUMMARY:Lust for Life screening (2019-May-20 @ 1:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Lust for Life (Vincente Minnelli\, U.S. 1956\, 122 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Eastman Entertains series. \nVincente Minnelli's bold\, colorful biography of Vincent Van Gogh is anchored by the vibrant performances of Kirk Douglas as Vincent and James Donald as his brother\, Theo. Van Gogh\, following an unsuccessful preaching career\, finds himself drawn to the people of the town and the work that they do\, which leads him to find drawing and\, ultimately\, painting. He is influenced by his relationships with painters Anton Mauve (Noel Purcell) and Paul Gaugin (Anthony Quinn)\, but the beautiful images he paints belie a struggle with depression. Douglas was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance and Quinn won his second Oscar in five years for his. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2019-May-6]

SUMMARY:My Best Friend's Wedding screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen My Best Friend's Wedding (P. J. Hogan\, U.S. 1997\, 105 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Julia Roberts series. \nThe "best friend" of the title is sports reporter Michael O'Neal (Dermot Mulroney)\, who had an agreement with New York food critic Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) that they would marry each other at the age of 28 if they hadn't found anyone else. When Michael reveals that he is marrying Kimmy (an effervescent Cameron Diaz) and Julianne discovers that her feelings for Michael are genuine\, she decides to travel to Chicago and break up the wedding. Broader and more physical than in any of her other comedies\, Roberts delights in playing the "other woman" with gusto and her own easy charm. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2019-May-13]

SUMMARY:Mike Wallace Is Here screening (2019-May-18 @ 3 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Mike Wallace Is Here (Avi Belkin\, U.S. 2019\, 94 min.) as part of the One Take Documentary Series. \nNever before has journalism in America been so hotly debated. At a time when it seems like the hard-hitting question is fighting for its right to be asked\, Mike Wallace Is Here turns the tough question loose on its inventor to understand how we got here and what's really at stake. \nLegendary newsman Mike Wallace unflinchingly interrogated the 20th century's biggest figures in over fifty years on the air\, and his aggressive reporting style and showmanship redefined what America came to expect from broadcasters. Unearthing decades of never-before-seen footage from the 60 Minutes vault\, this documentary portrait explores what drove and plagued this restless reporter\, whose storied career was entwined with the evolution of journalism itself. \n\n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2019-May-6]
