SUMMARY:Thelma screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Thelma (Joachim Trier\, Norway/France/Denmark/Sweden 2017\, 116 min.\, DCP\, Norwegian w/subtitles). \nThelma\, a shy young student\, has just left her religious family in a small town on the west coast of Norway to study at a university in Oslo. While at the library one day\, she experiences a violent\, unexpected seizure. Soon after\, she finds herself intensely drawn toward Anja\, a beautiful young student who reciprocates Thelma's powerful attraction. As the semester continues\, Thelma becomes increasingly overwhelmed by her intense feelings for Anja—feelings she doesn't dare acknowledge\, even to herself—while at the same time experiencing even more extreme seizures. As it becomes clearer that the seizures are a symptom of inexplicable\, often dangerous\, supernatural abilities\, Thelma is confronted with tragic secrets of her past and the terrifying implications of her powers. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2018-Mar-19]

SUMMARY:La fabbrica dei tedeschi (The German Factory)\, Uno per tutti (One for All) screenings
DESCRIPTION:Filmmaker Mimmo Calopresti will be on hand to discuss the screening of his films\, La fabbrica dei tedeschi (The German Factory\, Mimmo Calopresti\, Italy 2008\, 83 min.\, DCP\, Italian w/subtitles)\, and Uno per tutti (One for All\, Mimmo Calopresti\, Italy 2015\, 82 min.\, DCP\, Italian w/subtitles). \nThe German Factory explores the incident at the ThyssenKrupp steel factory on December 6\, 2007\, that killed seven workers—a fatal event that could have been avoided if security norms and quality control processes had been followed. The documentary digs into the causes\, still partly unknown\, while actors Valeria Golino\, Silvio Orlando\, Luca Lionello\, Monica Guerritore\, and Rosalia Porcaro act as relatives of the victims\, reenacting the hours before the tragedy struck. \n About One for All: \nNow in their fifties\, Gil\, Vinz\, and Saro have known each other since childhood. Life has made them different from each other\, however. Gil is a wealthy real-estate builder and Saro is a police officer in Turin\, while Vinz is a doctor in southern Italy. When Gil's son\, an upperclass student\, stabs a fellow classmate during a fight\, Saro gets back to Turin to assist Gil. The ensuing reunion between the three friends sets off a chain of unexpected events. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2018-Mar-19]

SUMMARY:La danza del hipocampo (The Dance of Memory) screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen La danza del hipocampo (The Dance of Memory) (Gabriela Domínguez Ruvalcaba\, Mexico 2014\, 80 min.) followed by a live video discussion with director Gabriela Domínguez Ruvalcaba as part of the Women's History Month Film Series 2018: Women Who Fight series. \nThe mechanisms of memory are mysterious. If you had to choose seven moments that summarized your whole life\, which ones would you choose? In "The dance of memory" the director takes us into the deep ocean of her old family videos in order to find the clues that lead us through her quest. This is a documentary essay full of visual poetry\, where memory gets scrapped into people and places to reveal the origins of memory. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2018-Mar-15]
