SUMMARY:The Kid Brother screening (2017-Mar-20 @ 1:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen The Kid Brother (Ted Wilde and J.A. Howe\, U.S. 1926\, 82 min.\, 16mm) as part of the Silent Tuesdays series. \n"Harold Lloyd has clicked again with The Kid Brother\, about as gaggy a gag picture as he has ever done. It is just a series of gags\, one following the other\, some funny and others funnier. Lloyd is somewhat different in the picture than he has been heretofore. In this case he is the youngest son of a family of three boys who live with their father\, a widower. His opening scene shows him performing this last task with the aid of a butter churn\, an ingenious mechanical arrangement for the wringing out and hanging of the clothes with the aid of a kite which carries the clothes aloft as they come from the wringer. When dad finds out that a medicine show has made a pitch and that the boy has given them a license\, her orders the youngster to go down and close up the show. There are a couple of gags here that get over for howls\, especially that of causing the amateur sheriff to disappear and his final hanging up against the back of the stage securely handcuffed. Jobyna Ralston plays opposite Lloyd as the little medicine show girl and handles herself perfectly. Walter James as the comedian's father acquits himself with honors." — Variety (1926) \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2017-Mar-6]

SUMMARY:A Revolution in Four Seasons screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen A Revolution in Four Seasons (Jessie Deeter\, U.S. 2016\, 87 min.) followed by a discussion with Ilka Datig\, and Iman Abid as part of the Women's History Month Film Series 2017: Trailblazing Women series. \nThis seminal film tells the story of two women with opposing political views fighting for their different versions of a democratic future for Tunisia\, the country that sparked the Arab Spring. Over the course of Tunisia's critical post-revolution years\, we follow journalist Emna Ben Jemaa\, who envisions a country governed by free speech and without the corruption of the former regime. In contrast\, Jawhara Ettis of the Islamist party Ennahda works towards a Tunisia guided by Islamic principles. On a public level\, both women must navigate how females are treated in their society\, while in their own homes they must make difficult choices to balance their public political roles with marriage and motherhood. Both know the stakes are high. The ever-present threat of Islamic extremists means their fragile political process could break down and all they've worked for could be lost. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2017-Mar-6]

SUMMARY:Sketching the Soul theatrical performance (2017-Mar-19 @ 2 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The MuCCC is hosting a performance of Sketching the Soul by Jacqueline Lynch. \nChelsea Logan is an artist struggling with the conflict between her growing celebrity and her Amish upbringing\, which she left behind to pursue her ambition\, and which she neglected to mention to Mike (her boyfriend)\, new friends and colleagues. The past and present\, celebrity and spiritually come to a head one frenetic weekend when her younger sister Sarah arrives unexpectedly. Chelsea must explain her sister\, and the lifestyle she kept a secret\, to Mike\, an attorney struggling with his own ethical priorities\, and to Maureen Nash an aggressive journalist who arrives with a photographer for an interview (during which Chelsea\, with a rather un-Amish-like attitude\, pummels the photographer into surrendering the film he has shot of Sarah!) Sarah and Mike together help Chelsea to accept and acknowledge the power of her Amish heritage and to move toward a future she had not expected. \n [source: MuCCC website\, 2017-Mar-13]

DESCRIPTION:The JCC will host a performance of The Flick by Annie Baker in the CenterStage Theatre. \nThree underpaid employees of a run-down movie theater tear tickets\, clean up popcorn and attend to one of the few remaining 35 millimeter film projectors in usage. SUMMARY:Life Is A Dream theatrical performance (2017-Mar-19 @ 2 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Considered one of the outstanding Spanish dramas of all time\, this 17th-century allegory explores the mysteries of human destiny\, the illusory nature of existence\, and the struggle between predestination and free will. On the basic plot structure of King's suspicions of his son's role in an impending revolution\, the playwright builds a dramatic edifice of theatricality\, rich in symbolism and metaphor\, expressed in magnificent poetry. \n [source: Bread and Water Theatre \, 2017-Feb-27]

SUMMARY:Ultimo tango a Parigi (Last Tango in Paris) screening (2017-Mar-18 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Ultimo tango a Parigi (Last Tango in Paris\, Bernardo Bertolucci\, France/Italy 1972\, 129 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Vittorio Storaro series. \nStill haunting\, still disturbing\, Last Tango in Paris is marked by the confluence of legends who made it: the stealthy tracking shots of Vittorio Storaro\, the raw torment of Marlon Brando's performance\, and the directorial brilliance of Bernardo Bertolucci. And there's Maria Schneider\, still a teenager\, as Jeanne\, who\, searching for a Parisian apartment\, crosses paths with Brando\, deeply disturbed after his wife's suicide. Brando and Schneider suddenly rush together\, beginning an affair of fears and desires. The feverish erotic intensity of Last Tango led to its ban in Italy for promoting obscenity and made it one of the most controversial and furiously debated films in the entire history of the cinema. Screening of a rare X-rated 35mm print! \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2017-Mar-13]

SUMMARY:Sketching the Soul theatrical performance (2017-Mar-18 @ 7:30 p.m.)

SUMMARY:Life Is A Dream theatrical performance (2017-Mar-18 @ 7:30 p.m.)
