The father and son supplement their meals by a coordinated shoplifting scheme that they reason doesn't hurt anyone\, because the food doesn't belong to anyone yet. Still\, when they find a young girl locked out on her porch on a cold winter's night\, they find enough room in their hearts and home to warm her and feed her. When they try to return her\, they find out that the girl is unwanted and take her in permanently. Months later\, when news of the missing girl is televised\, the family must decide what is most important to them.
