SUMMARY:Maxie screening (2019-Jan-15 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Maxie (Paul Aaron\, U.S. 1985\, 98 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Glenn Close series. \nJust three years after her film debut in The World According to Garp\, Glenn Close starred as Jan\, a reserved housewife who moves into an old San Francisco house with her husband\, Nick. After discovering a message written in the 1920s by deceased starlet Maxie Malone under layers of wallpaper\, Nick finds a copy of the only silent movie containing a bit part played by Maxie. The haunting spirit of Maxie\, who wishes to fulfill her Hollywood destiny cut short by a fatal car crash\, is subsequently awoken and possesses Jan\, causing the staid housewife to become outgoing and flirtatious to hilarious effect. At turns vivacious\, musical\, and affecting\, this film earned Glenn Close a nomination for a Saturn Award for Best Actress. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2019-Jan-7]
