DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Yentl (Barbra Streisand\, U.S. 1983\, 133 min.\, 35mm) as part of the L'chaim: Celebrating Jewish Life series.  \nBarbra Streisand purchased the story rights of Yentl ten years before she was able to convince Hollywood to make this film\, eventually becoming the director\, co-writer\, co-producer\, and star. In 1904 Poland\, Yentl is a young Jewish girl wishing to become a religious scholar—at the time exclusively the realm of men. She disguises herself as a boy and takes her late brother's name to study Talmudic Law. As Anshel\, she befriends Avigdor (Mandy Patinkin)\, who is engaged to Hadass (Amy Irving). When Hadass's family rejects the engagement\, Avigdor convinces Anshel/Yentl as his best friend to marry her instead. DESCRIPTION:Bop Shop Records and the Rochester Indie Musician Spotlight are pleased to present this concert together: Bob Sneider and The Merry Gentlemen: A Holiday Show For Charity. Tom\, Jann (and everyone at Bop Shop Records) and Dan and the Spotlight team care about our community\, and about amazing music. What better way to celebrate this season of giving than with an interview and performance with Rochester's own Jazz Ambassador\, Bob Sneider.  Bob and the Merry Gentlemen's album\, "Christmas On the Rocks\," features Bob's trio and some amazing guests. For this show\, Bob will be joined by his trio (Danny Ziemann\, bass; Mike Melito\, drums)\, along with Mike Kaupa\, trumpet\, and Grant Le\, recorder (yes\, be ready for some bebop recorder). Bob just might pull some surprise guests from his Santa hat\, too.  Tempro\, a social action organization that's part of Temple B'rith Kodesh in Rochester\, provides temporary housing for more than 150 families a year.
