SUMMARY:September Meeting of The Photographic Historical Society
DESCRIPTION:The September 20 TPHS meeting will Not be held at VSW in the evening. We are meeting on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Rochester Historical Society\, at 121 Lincoln Ave\, on the west side of the city. Our tour guide is historian Dan Cody.  The museum is fascinating\, with early Rochesterians' oil portraits\, WW1 Posters\, early Rochester pioneer's information\, clothing (including Susan B. Anthony's burgundy traveling dress)\, an historic piano and one of the Fox sisters' table used for "tapping" for seances.  When you get to Lincoln Ave\, if you see a small church with the number 121 on it\, pull behind it to the original home of Eastman Kodak's former Lincoln Plant. This plant still has the chain-link fence with barbed wire on top\, as it was the top-secret location for the building of spy satellites. In fact\, the room with two basketball courts in the rec center in the back of the building was once the largest "clean room" in the Eastern US! \n [source: Facebook\, 2018-Sep-17]

DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Intruder in the Dust (Clarence Brown\, U.S. 1949\, 87 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Reinventing Hollywood series.  \nThis rarely seen adaptation of the mystery novel by William Faulkner investigates racism and justice in the mid-century South. When a black landowner is falsely charged with the murder of a white lumberman\, it's up to an unlikely band to defend him. A black teen\, a white teen and his lawyer uncle\, and an elderly woman come together to prove the landowner's innocence and bring the true murderer to justice.
