SUMMARY:RBG screening (2018-Jul-6 @ 7 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Cinema will screen RBG (Julie Cohen\, Betsy West\, U.S. 2018\, 98 min.) "At the age of 84\, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has developed a breathtaking legal legacy while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon. But without a definitive Ginsburg biography\, the unique personal journey of this diminutive\, quiet warrior's rise to the nation's highest court has been largely unknown\, even to some of her biggest fans — until now. RBG is a revelatory documentary exploring Ginsburg's exceptional life and career from Betsy West and Julie Cohen\, and co-produced by Storyville Films and Cnn Films." SUMMARY:24 Frames screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen 24 Frames (Abbas Kiarostami\, Iran 2017\, 114 min.\, DCP). \nFor what would be his final film\, Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami gave himself a challenge: to create a dialogue between his work as a filmmaker and his work as a photographer\, bridging the two art forms to which he had dedicated his life. Setting out to reconstruct the moments immediately before and after a photograph is taken\, Kiarostami selected 24 still images—most of them stark landscapes inhabited only by foraging birds and other wildlife—and digitally animated them into subtly evolving four-and-a-half-minute vignettes\, creating a series of poignant studies in movement\, perception\, and time. A sustained meditation on the process of image making\, 24 Frames is a graceful and elegiac farewell from one of the giants of world cinema. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2018-Jul-2]
