SUMMARY:The Bridge on the River Kwai screening (2018-Mar-3 @ 11 a.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Kodak Center will screen the excellent film The Bridge on the River Kwai (David Lean\, U.K./U.S. 1957\, 161 min.\, 35mm) as part of the Oscar Gala Weekend hosted by Eastman Kodak. \nA group of British Pows captured by the Japanese during World War II are forced to build a bridge that will assist the enemy. Master director David Lean's strongest statement on the insanity and absurdity of war is abundant in magnificent acting\, spectacular action scenes\, and shattering ironies. The peerless cast features William Holden\, Jack Hawkins\, Sessue Hayakawa\, and Alec Guinness\, in his Oscar-winning performance as the colonel who collaborates with the Japanese. \n [source: George Eastman Museum\, 2018-Feb-26]

SUMMARY:Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon musical performance
DESCRIPTION:Why we edit? Less than 10% of editors on Wikipedia are women. Wikipedia is the largest and most popular general reference work on the internet with more than 40 million articles in more than 250 different languages. The fact is when we don't tell our stories or participate in the ways our history is preserved\, it gets erased. Let's build our local contribution to the movement! We provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian\, ongoing editing support\, reference materials\, childcare\, and refreshments. People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate\, particularly transgender and cisgender women. Squeaky Wheel invites back Toronto artist and Wikipedian extraordinaire Zeesy Powers to facilitate tutorials and discussions. New this year is a collaboration with the Albright Knox Art Gallery\, who will provide reference materials on the artists featured in their exhibition We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women\, 1965—85 (on view from February 16—may 27). \n [source: Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center website\, 2018-Feb-26]
