SUMMARY:Shape of a Pocket Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The Squeaky Wheel will host an Opening Recpetion for Shape of a Pocket\, on display through August 26\, and feauring work by Morgan Arnett\, Jason Bernagozzi\, Charlie Best and Jaz Palermo\, W. Michelle Harris\, Kyla Kegler\, Dana McKnight\, Przemyslaw Moskal\, Van Tran Nguyen\, Elisa Peebles and the United Melanin Society\, Carl Spartz\, Kalpana Subramanian\, and Tony Yanick. \nHow can the shape of a work be a site of resistance? How do collaborative practices inform our ideas of activism in art? What does it mean for resistance to happen in an exhibition context? Squeaky Wheel's summer group exhibition features a number of artists aiming to take these questions to task\, while asking their own. Comprised of installations\, performances\, single-screen video work\, video games\, locative sound and media pieces\, the exhibition points to strictures and traumas that have roots far preceding our current political moment\, while proposing visions\, sounds\, and networks for a future. \n [source: Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center website\, 2017-Jun-26]

SUMMARY:Last Men in Aleppo screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Last Men in Aleppo (Firas Fayyad\, Steen Johannessen\, Syria/Denmark 2017\, 104 min.\, DCP\, Arabic w/subtitles). \nWinner of the Grand Jury Documentary prize at the Sundance Film Festival\, Syrian filmmaker Feras Fayyad's breathtaking work—a searing example of boots-on-the-ground reportage—follows the efforts of the internationally recognized White Helmets\, an organization comprised of ordinary citizens who are the first to rush towards explosions in the hope of saving lives. Incorporating moments of both heart-pounding suspense and improbable beauty\, the documentary draws us into the lives of three of its founders—Khaled\, Subhi\, and Mahmoud—as they grapple with the chaos around them and struggle with an ever-present dilemma: to flee with their families or stay and fight for their country. A gripping portrait of extraordinary bravery\, Last Men in Aleppo provides a stirring new perspective on a conflict reshaping our world. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2017-Jul-3]

SUMMARY:Seth Faergolzia's Multibird\, Dead Lounge\, Dogmath musical performances
DESCRIPTION:Seth Faergolzia's Multibird – Rochester based experimental folk rock quartet. An incredible\, prophetic artist and redonkulous singer. Not to be missed! […] Seth is well known for subtly harmonic\, experimental lyricism\, dynamic song structures\, and "whip-crack-acrobatic" vocals. Celebrated as a vibrant example of what happens when a musician turns a genre like folk upside down and inside out\, over time Faergolzia has come to represent something of a genre unto himself oft times nowhere near the folk aesthetic. \n [source: Facebook\, 2017-Jul-3]
