SUMMARY:The Opioid Crisis—A Community Discussion
DESCRIPTION:In the Kate Gleason Auditorium of the Bausch and Lomb Library Building is a Community Discussion on The Opioid Crisis. \nWith hundreds of drug overdoses happening across the country every week\, the opioid epidemic has been deemed a public health emergency! However\, as with many social issues\, the conversations surrounding this epidemic are complex and involve input from many different perspectives. The Rochester Public Library and Gates Public Library will host a free panel discussion with representatives from local law enforcement\, experts in physiology and psychology\, and advocates of the addiction community. Each panelist will share the challenges they face within their field\, what they're doing to address these challenges\, and what changes they'd like to see happening in our communities. \n [source: City of Rochester website\, 2017-Jun-21]

SUMMARY:La reine Margot (Queen Margot) screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen La reine Margot (Queen Margot\, Patrice Chéreau\, France/Italy/Germany 1994\, 133 min.\, 35mm\, French w/subtitles) as part of the Period Dramas series. \nOn the night of August 23\, 1572\, a Catholic mob rose first in Paris and then throughout France and slaughtered thousands of Protestants in what became known as the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. In 1845\, Alexandre Dumas wrote a historical novel about these events\, centered on the young princess Margaret of Valois\, daughter of the scheming queen Catherine de' Medici\, who was largely responsible for all the bloodshed. Patrice Chéreau's film adaptation is widely recognized as one of the most lavish (and blood-spattered) French period dramas\, winning both the Jury Prize and the Best Actress award for Isabelle Adjani at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2017-Jun-19]
