SUMMARY:La Ronde theatrical performance (2016-Oct-7 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Bread and Water Theatre is hosting a performance of La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler. \nFirst published for private circulation in Vienna in 1900\, Arthur Schnitzler's famous play looks at the sexual morality and class ideology of his day through a series of sexual encounters between pairs of characters. When published in 1903\, it became an immediate best-seller\, scandalized Viennese society\, and a year later was censored. Schnitzler was accused of pornography and worse. By choosing characters across the social spectrum\, La Ronde offers a powerful view of how sexual contact transgresses boundaries of class. For mature audiences only. No cell phones or cameras allowed in the theatre for this production. \n [source: Bread and Water Theatre website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:Medium Cool screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Medium Cool (Haskell Wexler\, U.S. 1969\, 111 min.\, 16mm) as part of the Labor Film Series. \nIn contrast to de Antonio's coverage of the 1968 Democratic primaries (screening September 9)\, Medium Cool is a 1960s answer to Italian neo-realism\, blending documentary footage of actual protests at that year's Democratic convention with the fictional story of a TV cameraman struggling with his conscience over his role in capturing (or perpetuating?) the social ills of the day. Rochester's own Robert Forster gives a riveting performance in this disturbing portrait of the decade's political turmoil and unrest. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Oct-3]

SUMMARY:Blazing Saddles screening (2016-Oct-7 @ 9 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Blazing Saddles (Mel Brooks\, U.S. 1974\, 93 min.) as part of the Mondo Movie Series. \nn this satirical take on Westerns\, crafty railroad worker Bart (Cleavon Little) becomes the first black sheriff of Rock Ridge\, a frontier town about to be destroyed in order to make way for a new railroad. Initially\, the people of Rock Ridge harbor a racial bias toward their new leader. However\, they warm to him after realizing that Bart and his perpetually drunk gunfighter friend (Gene Wilder) are the only defense against a wave of thugs sent to rid the town of its population. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2016-Oct-3]
