SUMMARY:St. Joseph's 75th Anniversary Celebration: Homeless March
DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we celebrate St. Joseph's House 75th anniversary. We moved into 402 South Ave in 1941\, and thanks to your support we are still practicing the works of mercy and working towards creating a "new society in the shell of the old". We are the oldest continually operating Catholic Worker House in the world\, so we are planning two days of events. We hope to see you there! Meet in St. Joe's Parking lot\, 402 South Ave and join us as we walk to Washington Square Park. We will be passing a few places where people experiencing homelessness lay their heads and will finish with a protest rally at the park. We will head back to St. Joe's House for a post-protest meal! \n [source: Facebook\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:La Ronde theatrical performance (2016-Sep-23 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Bread and Water Theatre is hosting a performance of La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler. \nFirst published for private circulation in Vienna in 1900\, Arthur Schnitzler's famous play looks at the sexual morality and class ideology of his day through a series of sexual encounters between pairs of characters. When published in 1903\, it became an immediate best-seller\, scandalized Viennese society\, and a year later was censored. Schnitzler was accused of pornography and worse. By choosing characters across the social spectrum\, La Ronde offers a powerful view of how sexual contact transgresses boundaries of class. For mature audiences only. No cell phones or cameras allowed in the theatre for this production. \n [source: Bread and Water Theatre website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:Remine\, El Último Movimiento Obrero (Remine\, the Last Working Class Movement) screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Remine\, El Último Movimiento Obrero (Remine\, the Last Working Class Movement\, Marcos Martinez\, Spain 2014\, 102 min.\, DCP\, Spanish w/subtitles) as part of the Labor Film Series. \nIn 2012\, as global financial institutions harassed debt-ridden Spain\, the government introduced crushing austerity measures\, including a 63 percent reduction in subsidies to the coal industry. In northern Spain\, a stronghold of militant trade unions\, Asturian miners declared an unlimited strike\, occupied mines\, blockaded highways\, fought police\, and organized a mass protest march to Madrid\, nearly 300 miles away. Across Spain and internationally\, the miners' traditional methods of struggle and organization won wide sympathy and admiration\, culminating in a joyous demonstration of solidarity. Yet the future of Spanish coal mining remains in doubt. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:EIO — Ensemble of Irreproducible Outcomes musical performance
DESCRIPTION:EIO was formed in 2012\, in the wake of a collaboration with David D. McIntire and bassist Brian Padavic. Over the course of this project\, the notion of an ensemble that performed indeterminate works took hold and Ryan Oldham was invited to fill out the trio. All three are composers and all contribute to the group's repertoire. While the trio often performs from notation\, all of its works are designed to be realized differently each time they are performed. Thus\, every musical outcome is "irreproducible." In the works with electronics\, earlier performances are embedded into the electronic material\, usually transformed in some way\, yet providing an imperfect "memory" of the previous experiences. With each new performance\, this material is remixed\, and while certain dimensions will remain the same and be familiar to the musicians\, there are always some surprises. In this way we hope to mirror phenomena of nature and the workings of people's daily lives. \n [source: Bop Shop website\, 2016-Sep-19]

SUMMARY:Dragnet screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen Dragnet (Tom Mankiewicz\, U.S. 1987\, 106 min.) as part of the Mondo Movie Series. \n"Just the facts\, ma'am." The equally-straight-laced and "by the book" nephew of Joe Friday (Dan Aykroyd) must work with his more laid-back partner (Tom Hanks) to solve a mystery. This 1987 film is an adaptation of the hit 1950s show\, also named Dragnet. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2016-Sep-19]
