Using animated reenactments\, interviews\, archival footage\, and a hilariously unreliable narrator\, Nuts! traces Brinkley's rise from poverty and obscurity to the heights of celebrity\, wealth and influence in Depression-era America.  Along the way\, he transplants tens of thousands of goat testicles; amasses an enormous fortune; is (sort of) elected Governor of Kansas; builds the world's most powerful radio station; invents junk mail\, the infomercial\, the sound-truck and Border Radio; hosts some epic parties; and annoys the heck out of the establishment\, until finally his audacious actions force the federal government to create regulations to stop him. DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen When a Man Loves (Alan Crosland\, U.S. 1927\, 111 min.\, 35mm).  \nJohn Barrymore stars with Dolores Costello\, who would become his third wife the following year. This was the seventh screen adaption of Abbe Prevost's 1731 novel Manon Lescaut and the third film to be released with a pre-recorded Vitaphone musical score and effects soundtrack. According to Mordaunt Hall's review in the New York Times\, the Vitaphone score was reproduced so well "that there were many in the audience who forgot until the last moment that there were no musicians in the pit." The definition of art-rock? A type of rock music\, often with poetic lyrics\, characterized by sophisticated harmonic\, dynamic and technical complexity based on forms derived from classical (and jazz) music and requiring performers of considerable training and skill. It sounds so serious but when you combine that type of music with four fun-loving musicians who don't take themselves too seriously and who have a love of so much music beyond art-rock (which is why the band covers songs from Otis Rush's "All Your Love" to "Whipping Post" to "When the Levee Breaks" to "Yyz)\, you get a bit of magic in live music form.
