SUMMARY:The Presstitutes theatrical performance (2016-Jul-8 @ 7:30 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:"The Presstitutes\," developed with the help of Geva Theatre Center\, is a farce about the staff of a dying newspaper in Western\, NY\, and the gubernatorial campaign of a dark horse politician joining forces to save themselves. Along the way\, issues of integrity become . . . complicated. The result is a humorous and stark commentary on the state of journalism and politics in contemporary America. \n [source: MuCCC website\, 2016-Jul-5]

SUMMARY:Dreams Rewired screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Dreams Rewired (Manu Luksch\, Martin Reinhart\, Thomas Tode\, Austria / Germany / U.K. 2015\, 88 min.\, DCP). \nTilda Swinton's hypnotic voiceover and a treasure trove of rare archival footage culled from hundreds of films from the 1880s through the 1930s—much of it previously unseen—combine to trace today's hyper-connected world back a hundred years. Then\, too\, electric media sparked idealism in the public imagination—hailed as the beginning of an era of total communication\, annihilation of distance\, and the end of war. But then\, too\, fears over the erosion of privacy\, security\, morality proved to be well founded. Dreams Rewired traces contemporary appetites and anxieties back to the birth of the telephone\, television\, and cinema. These earlier technologies were expected to serve everyone\, not just the elite classes; human relationships would become stronger\, efficiency would increase\, and society would be revolutionized. . . . But these initial promises were very different from what new media eventually brought to daily life. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Jul-4]

SUMMARY:The Breakfast Club screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen The Breakfast Club (John Hughes\, U.S. 1985\, 97 min.) as part of the Mondo Movie Series. \nBeyond being in the same class at Shermer High School in Shermer\, Illinois\, Claire Standish\, Andrew Clark\, John Bender\, Brian Johnson and Allison Reynolds have little in common\, and with the exception of Claire and Andrew\, do not associate with each other in school. In the simplest and in their own terms\, Claire is a princess\, Andrew an athlete\, John a criminal\, Brian a brain\, and Allison a basket case. But one other thing they do have in common is a nine hour detention in the school library together on Saturday\, March 24\, 1984\, under the direction of Mr. Vernon\, supervising from his office across the hall. Each is required to write a minimum one thousand word essay during that time about who they think they are. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2016-Jul-4]
