SUMMARY:The Language Archive theatrical performance (2016-Jun-4 @ 2 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The MuCCC will host a performance of The Language Archive by Julia Cho. \nThis romantic-comedy in the spirit of magical-realist writers like Salman Rushdie and Gabriel Garcia Marquez tells the story of George\, a world-renowned linguist and head of the prestigious Language Archive. So consumed is George with preserving and documenting the dying languages of far-flung cultures that he is unable to see that his wife\, Mary\, is planning on leaving him\, or that his long-time lab assistant\, Emma\, is desperately in love with him. In addition\, his professional life is upended when he learns that the last two surviving speakers if Elloway\, reputed to be the world's most beautiful language and soon to be recorded for the Archive\, are currently giving each other the silent treatment. Throw in a mysterious baker\, an intimidating language tutor\, and the founder of the universal language Esperanto\, and what you have is a hilarious and moving theatrical fable about what we really mean when we say "I love you." \n [source: MuCCC website\, 2016-May-23]

SUMMARY:Rockers screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Rockers (Ted Bafaloukos\, Jamaica 1978\, 100 min.\, 35mm). \nTo supplement his meager income\, drummer-for-hire Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace borrows money for a motorbike to sell 45s to local record stores across Kingston but\, when his bike is stolen by the "mafia\," he's left unable to work. With Bicycle Thieves as a starting point\, Horsemouth ambles through the city and\, rejecting inaction\, envisages a Robin Hood—like insurrection\, enlisting an offbeat group of musician friends to help (some of the biggest names in Reggae playing themselves). Ted Bafaloukos's first and only feature\, Rockers was originally conceived of as a documentary and clings to its aesthetic authenticity with pride\, featuring fascinating late-seventies footage of Jamaica shanties\, record stores and parties. Outstanding musical performances emerge organically from the narrative\, embracing the spiritual roots of reggae as well as emerging genres dancehall and ragga. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-May-30]
