SUMMARY:Public Lecture by Carol J. Adams\, author of The Sexual Politics of Meat
DESCRIPTION:In the Hawkins-Carlson Room of the Rush Rhees Library on the UofR Campus is a Public Lecture by Carol J. Adams\, author of The sexual politics of meat : a feminist-vegetarian critical theory. \nThe Sexual Politics of Meat explores a relationship between patriarchal values and meat-eating by interweaving the insights of feminism\, vegetarianism\, animal defense\, and literary theory. The book describes how a process of objectification\, fragmentation\, and consumption enables the oppression of animals so they are rendered being-less through technology\, language\, and cultural representation. This cycle links butchering with both the representation and reality of sexual violence in Western cultures that have a tendency to normalize sexual consumption. \n [source: Rochester Indymedia website\, 2016-Mar-7]

SUMMARY:Trois couleurs: Blanc (Three Colors: White) screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Trois couleurs: Blanc (Three Colors: White\, Krzysztof Kieslowski\, France/Poland/Switzerland 1994\, 91 min.\, 35mm\, Polish and French w/subtitles). \nClever plot twists color the desolate landscapes in the second installment of Kieslowski's trilogy\, as the theme of equality is filtered through the distorted lens of obsessive love. Karol (Zbigniew Zamachowski)\, an impotent hairdresser\, returns to his native Poland after being unceremoniously dumped by his sexy young Parisian wife (Julie Delpy). Although straying from subway musician to hit man to bodyguard to entrepreneur\, he remains fixated on exacting revenge in this highly original work\, which recalls Kieslowski's more comedic (albeit darker) side. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Mar-7]
