SUMMARY:Ambrotypes: Photographs On Glass class
DESCRIPTION:Today and tomorrow\, Jenn Libby will teach a class at Genesee Libby Studio titled Ambrotypes: Photographs On Glass. \nFrederick Scott Archer introduced the wet-plate collodion photographic process in 1851. Collodion was used to produce fine-grain\, archival glass negatives\, lantern slides\, ambrotypes\, and tintypes. This class will teach you the basics of the wet-plate collodion process to produce direct positive images on glass\, which are know as ambrotypes. Instruction will include how to properly prepare a glass plate\, pour collodion\, sensitize and process plates\, burnish and hand-color final images\, apply a protective varnish\, and house the photographs to complete the process. Cameras will be provided for use during the class. \n [source: Genesee Libby Studio website\, 2016-Feb-5]

SUMMARY:Ameri/Cain Gothic A Mystery in Two Acts theatrical performance (2016-Mar-12 @ 2 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:The MuCCC is hosting a performance of Ameri/Cain Gothic A Mystery in Two Acts by Paul Carter Harrison. \nOn the eve of the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, an unlikely pair finds themselves navigating the present through their unreconciled violent and sexualized "ghosts" of the past. For mature audiences\, this gothic tale breaches the haunting of America's past with the complicity of its present. Enter I.W. Harper\, a private investigator\, in town to provide security detail for a civil rights leader in Memphis on what would later be the eve of his assassination. In an act of reconnoitering\, he crosses paths in a rooming house with Cass Pruitt\, a reclusive woman "haunted" by her past lovers and sexual assaults. In this multi-layered piece\, Paul Carter Harrison cooks up a gothic gumbo\, adding one morsel after another\, all the while allowing the meal to heat until it reaches the boiling point of analysis and critique … does America have a predilection to violence and sexual assault … were the people who loved King the most too distracted to protect him… \n [source: MuCCC website\, 2016-Feb-29]

SUMMARY:How Green Was My Valley screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen How Green Was My Valley (John Ford\, U.S. 1941\, 119 min.\, 35mm). \nThis nostalgic\, profoundly touching—but also unashamedly political—drama traces the lives of the Morgan clan\, a hardworking Welsh proletarian family determined to stay together as they overcome hardship and tragedy in a period of rapid social changes. Maureen O'Hara\, Donald Crisp\, Walter Pidgeon\, and young Roddy McDowell star in the film that beat Citizen Kane for the Academy Award for Outstanding Motion Picture\, and remains celebrated as one of the most beloved and visually stunning films directed by the great John Ford. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Mar-7]
