Baldwin's essays as collected in Notes of a Native Son (1955) explore palpable\, yet unspoken\, intricacies of racial\, sexual and class distinctions in western societies\, most notably in mid-twentieth century America. His work inspired a generation of people who sought a voice\, an analysis\, and an articulation of their humanity and peoplehood. The relevance of his work and the truths that flowed from his pen still resonates in a profound and poignant way even today.
