SUMMARY:Rochester's Rich History Series: Tea with Mrs. Jeffrey
DESCRIPTION:Rochester's Rich History Series returns to the Rundel Auditorium on the 3rd floor of the Rundel Library Building with a program titled Tea with Mrs. Jeffrey by Robin Nowell. \nJoin us for an afternoon with Mrs. Jeffrey and learn more about her fascinating life as an advocate for the causes of education\, suffrage\, and equality. Born in Norfolk\, Virginia\, activist Hester C. Jeffrey moved to Rochester from Boston with her husband in 1891. Mrs. Jeffrey was heavily involved in efforts to erect a bronze statue of Frederick Douglass in Rochester and was tireless in her efforts to organize African American women\, founding the Susan B. Anthony Club for Colored Women in 1902 and serving as its first president. She would go on to form the Hester C. Jeffrey Club\, which raised money for young black women to take courses at the Mechanics Institute. A close friend and associate of Susan B. Anthony\, Mrs. Jeffrey was chosen to deliver a eulogy at her funeral. \n [source: Monroe County Library website\, 2016-Jan-11]

SUMMARY:Wet-Plate Collodion Photography demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Jenn Libby will teach a class on Wet-Plate Collodion Photography in Genesee Libby Studio. Sign up at the Rochester Brainery website. \nWhat is wet-plate collodion photography? Invented in 1851\, it is one of the oldest photographic processes\, and it is experiencing a revival in the 21st century. In this class you will learn how a wet-plate image is made\, why it became the dominant form of photography during much of the Victorian Era\, and why it is gaining in popularity today. You will be able to examine samples of modern and antique plates on metal and glass and learn the difference between tintypes\, ambrotypes\, and daguerreotypes. The instructor will also demonstrate the process using her 1920s-era 8×10 Kodak field camera to make a ruby ambrotype. \n [source: Rochester Brainery website\, 2016-Jan-11]

SUMMARY:Am zin (Running Out of Time) screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Am zin (Running Out of Time\, Johnnie To\, Hong Kong 1999\, 93 min.\, 35mm\, Cantonese w/subtitles). \nSuperstar Andy Lau and frequent To collaborator Lau Ching-wan star in this thrilling cat-and-mouse game set amid Hong Kong's soaring rooftops and narrow streets and corridors. Lau plays a mysterious\, cancer-stricken man named Cheung\, who draws on what little energy he has left to avenge his father's killers. In the process\, he engages a seasoned police negotiator (Ching-wan) in a 72-hour battle of daring and wits. Director To orchestrates a unique spectacle in Running Out of Time\, not only with his ingenious pairing of Lau and Ching-wan\, but by infusing the film's action with intensity\, comedy\, and despair in almost equal measure. \n [source: George Eastman Museum website\, 2016-Jan-11]
