Now fast food workers and their allies are beginning\, throughout the entire nation\, are beginning to build a powerful coalition for racial and economic justice. The cornerstones of this movement nationwide are three major components: 1. Black Lives Matter 2. Immigration Justice 3. $15 and union rights for all On November 10th\, we will participate in a National Day of Action for economic and racial justice. SUMMARY:American St. Nick screening
DESCRIPTION:The Little will screen American St. Nick (Tim Gray\, U.S. / Germany 2015\, 57 min.) as part of WXXI's Veterans Connections. \nIt's December 1944\, the Germans are retreating. It appears the war in Europe may be over soon\, but not soon enough for members of the battle-worn 28th Infantry Division. Knowing they won't be home again for the Holidays\, soldiers from a 112th regiment Signal Company Message Center in the storybook town of Wiltz\, realize that although the town has been liberated after nearly five years of Nazi occupation\, the ravages of war have left the townspeople with nothing to celebrate the season. For the children\, it will be especially bleak without the hope of candies\, treats or gifts on the normally town-wide celebration of St. Nicolas Day. Hearing this\, Corporal Harry Stutz gets an idea. He gathers some fellow soldiers and together they organize a Christmas party for the children\, a party that will include a special visit from St. Nicolas himself\, thanks to a reluctant Corporal Richard Brookins. Wearing the mass robes of the local priest and a crudely fashioned rope beard to complete the costume\, St. Nicolas rides through town on an Army jeep\, stopping to meet the children and passing out treats baked by the Army cooks or donated from the soldier's care packages from home. Later the celebration continues with a party for all the children at the Wiltz Castle. It is a wonderful day for the children of Wiltz and for the American soldiers as well. \n [source: Little Theatre website\, 2015-Nov-2]

SUMMARY:Lime Kiln Club Field Day screening
DESCRIPTION:The Dryden will screen Lime Kiln Club Field Day (Edwin Middleton\, T. Hayes Hunter\, Sam Corker Jr.\, U.S. 1913\, 63 min.\, 35mm). \nAt a challenging time of segregation in the fall of 1913\, a virtuoso cast of black performers led by famed Caribbean American entertainer Bert Williams (1874—1922) gathered in the Bronx to make a feature-length motion picture. After more than an hour of film was shot\, the project was abandoned by its white producers and left forgotten—until today. Found in MOMA's Biograph Studio collection\, the seven reels of untitled and unassembled footage represent the earliest known surviving feature with a cast of black actors. Shot at locations in New York and New Jersey\, the comedy centers on Williams's efforts to win the hand of the local beauty and boasts among its highlights a two-minute exhibition dance sequence and a cutting-edge display of on-screen affection between its leads. \n [source: George Eastman Museum calendar\, 2015-Nov-2]
