For a few months now, Branko, a former teacher, has been working as a truck driver for an Italian transport company—a decision that can be easily understood as his wage has tripled. Yet everything has its price, even if not quantified in money. Growing up we were told, "work makes a man honorable," but here it seems that the opposite has become true. With his efficiency, his stubbornness, and his goodwill to succeed in a job that is ever more alienating, bizarre, and enslaving, Branko appears to be anything but noble.
