Tintype Photo Collection on display
2016-Feb-02 @ 09:00 - 16:00
Starting today at the Yates County History Center is a display of their Tintype Photo Collection.
Yates County History Center invites the public to enjoy a display of its tin type photo collection beginning Tuesday, February 2 inside the Oliver House Museum. The collection of almost 100 portraits illustrates the affection between siblings, parent and child, and husband and wife with a delightful assortment of studio props. The photographic process used to create a tin type was cheap, easy and quick. The process created a direct positive on the thin metal sheet coated with dark lacquer or enamel. Popular during the Civil War, they were easily carried in soldier's pocket. Studio portraits such as those in the YCHC exhibit were initially the most predominant. Eventually, due to the ease of development, many photographers hit the road and shot images at county fairs and other public events. Also on display will be a large assortment of cameras and image viewing artifacts from the collections.
