Thunderball screening

2016-Apr-13 @ 20:00 - 22:10

The Dryden will screen Thunderball (Terence Young, U.K. 1965, 130 min., 35mm).

Before infamously going to outer space in 1979's Moonraker, the Bond series went underwater with considerably greater success. Shadowy international league of evildoers Spectre launches its latest scheme to extort money from the Western powers, this time with the added threat of nuclear warfare. For the second time in four films, 007 ends up in the scenic Caribbean where he must thwart Spectre once again. With a budget far larger than the first three films combined, Thunderball put its money on the screen with a series of large-scale underwater action sequences. With a famously difficult and harrowing production, Thunderball was the biggest Bond film to date and suitably the first shot in anamorphic widescreen.
