Tonight's The Photographic Historical Society (TPHS) meeting at Barnes and Noble features Grant Romer discussing More Light — The Story of the First American Photography Patent.
On May 8, 1840, Alexander S. Wolcott was granted the first American patent relating to Photography for a lensless camera employing a concave mirror. With this camera, together with his collaborator, John Johnson, Wolcott opened the first commercial photographic portrait studio in the world on First Street, in New York City.
